The brilliant career of Allen Iverson is coming to an end.
The star guard was released from his contract with the Memphis Grizzlies November 16 last month after only 3 games.
With no team Iverson, 34 years, said he plans to retire. “I would like to announce my intention to retire from the NBA,” Iverson said on the website of Stephen A. Smith, a journalist who followed the player during their glory years in Philadelphia.
The best player in the NBA in 2001, Iverson has won four titles from leading scorer in the league (1999, 2001, 2002 and 2005). In just over 13 seasons he played 889 games with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and Grizzlies. It totals averaged 27 points per game.
His career honors individual halo, however, never led to an NBA championship. He reached the final in 2001 but was defeated by the Lakers in Los Angeles.
Traded to to Memphis this season from Detroit, Iverson had missed the start of the season because of a groin injury. He then played three games as a reserve.
