What is causing the ice to disappear in Antartica? The Wilkins ice shelf is breaking apart sending huge ice cubes into the ocean.
The Wilkins ice shelf is approximately 5000 square miles in size. This floating ice layer has been breaking apart and falling into the ocean. Nearly 160 square miles of the ice formation has fallen. There are many opinions on the cause of this disaster.
With global warming causing problems to the ice covered regions of Antartica is the world in danger? Rising ocean levels could be in direct relation to the ice crumbling and melting. Ocean fronts and low lying islands or countries could have something to worry about. A large percentage of the worlds population live in these regions.
Is this the effect of pollution eating up the ozone layer or a natural recurring part of nature? Some Scientists claim they have found remains to a city in one of the cracks in this mighty chunk of ice. If this is true the country under this magnificient piece of ice was inhabitable at one point.
IS this a warning for the entire world? Pollution has been an issue for many years. Tighter regulations may have to be put in place.
