Earth Age And Evolution, A Constant Controversy

The latest determination of the earth’s age at about 4.5 billion years old, will cause most students and others to be more amenable to accepting the concept of Evolution. This is according to a University of Minnesota study published in the March issue of the journal Evolution.

The age of the earth will present educators with a challenge, as to how to present the Theory of Evolution in their classes. This will depend on the religious viewpoints of the students. The more liberal the students, the easier it is for them to accept an older age for the earth. Only about one in four students in the Upper Midwest are presented with a choice as to whether Evolution is a viable theory. Across the nation, most students are presented with a predominant view that the earth is much older than the age figured out by Biblical scholars based on the Old Testament. Therefore, having the earth presented as older than it is, will not have a great impact on science education or religious beliefs.

Those that hold fast to the Scripture will continue accepting the age of the earth in the vicinity of 11,000 years of age. Those that are not tied to this view will have no problem accepting the earth as quite a bit older.

  1. Greg says:

Utter Rubbish is being taught by people who just refuse to open their eyes. They are not far removed from the witch burners are they? Their rigidity certainly belies the rules of natural selection and evolution as they are not willing to evolve and see the greater glories of God’s creation with a new level of understanding of creations wonders. However, being a living fossil is not a scientific concept, it is purely a literary description of them as being fixed in rocks, unable to move. The people who wrote the Biblical texts lacked the science to explain creation rationally. Had they had current scientific knowledge in those days the Bible would probably be much closer to science today and mankind would be much closer to enlightenment.
