Researches Unearth New Meat-Eating Dinosaur in Romania

Researchers digging for fossils in Romania have unearthed what appears to be a previously unknown predatory dinosaur assumed to be alive around 65 million years ago. Scientists believe the creature is related to the infamous meat-eating Velociraptor. Named Balaur Bondoc, or “stocky dragon”, the animal had stocky limbs and feet with two claws.

The fossil remains represent the first skeleton of a predatory dinosaur from the Cretaceous period in Europe to be found almost fully complete. Researchers hope the discovery will shed new light on how dinosaurs and other animals of the time period and region developed, and how modern relatives differ.
