More Odd Coloured Lobsters Reported Than Ever Before
Increased Reports of Odd Colored Lobsters
Portland, Maine – The normal color of the tasty sea creatures in lobster rich New England are muted green-brown. Variations of that color are rare one in a million occurrences.
However, it’s said that multiple times a month fisherman are reporting finding the odd colored lobsters.
Most recently, Bill Sarro’s seafood shop reported finding just such lobsters in the haul they purchased.
Said the owner: “My butcher was unloading them and said, ‘Oh, my gosh, boss, they sent us cooked dead lobsters. He then picked one up and it crawled up his arm.”
It’s not known if there is an environmental cause to the uniquely colored lobsters some of which are bright blue.
MSNBC suggests that with so many people with camera phones and the popularity of social media, it could be we are just seeing more more instances of the colorful crustaceans.
“Are we seeing more because the Twitter sphere is active and people get excited about colorful lobsters?” said Michael Tlusty, research director at the New England Aquarium in Boston. “Is it because we’re actually seeing an upswing in them? Is it just that we’re catching more lobsters so we have the opportunity to see more?”
