Cupertino, California – Yesterday Apple Inc. debuted their long awaited iPhone6 which analysts agree has succeeded a leveling the playing field against their arch rival Samsung with their Galaxy line of Android-based smartphones. Now, it has been announced that the two large screen iPhone will be available to Canada starting Friday, September 19. It should be noted that the release date pertains to both the 4.7″ and 5.5″ models. A previous report erroneously stated that the larger size model would be delayed for months due to production delays. That is not true. Canadians will be able to pick whichever iPhone6 meets suits their taste.
“iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the biggest advancements in iPhone history,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The iPhone is the most loved smartphone in the world with the highest customer satisfaction in the industry and we are making it much better in every way. Only Apple can combine the best hardware, software and services at this unprecedented level and we think customers are going to love it.”

As for what customers will be able to pick from, here are the juicy details:

  • Finish or veneer: gold, silver, or space gray
  • Memory: 16GB, 32GB, or 128GB
  • Screen size: 4.7″ or 5.5″ screens

The new iPhones and the newly unveiled smartwatches feature “Apple Pay”. It is an application that allows for purchase of goods by having the consumer “tap” the device to pay. It uses the Near Field Communication (NFC) protocol. For security against the types of point of sale hacks that have cold cocked Target and Home Depot, Apple Pay does not involve using store cards and PINs. Instead, it creates a single-use secure authentication process via a hardware security chip implanted within the device. Apple did their homework and already have leading credit card companies supporting the protocol namely VISA, MasterCard, and American Express. Agreements with restaurant chains such as McDonald’s and Subway are already rolling. Even Walgreens and their pharmacy subsidiary Duane Reade are on board. There is no equivalent feature in rivals Samsung and the other numerous android smartphones. With the advent of the iPhone6, Apple has squarely put their fist in their rivals face.
