Virgin Mobile Throws Party for Launch of New Network

Virgin Mobile, who went live with a new HSPA+ network this past Friday, had their official party on Monday night. For their official launch party, Virgin Mobile brought in Victoria Secret models.

According to Virgin Mobile President, Robert Blumenthal, the celebration and announcement of the HSPA+ network was to prove to the world that they are now a major player in the wireless world. Previously, Virgin Mobile targeted clients who were far more interested in affordable phones and pre-paid plans. Now Virgin Mobile should attract any customer who is looking for the best phone, the best network, and the best overall experience.

While Virgin still offers pre-paid plans without monthly contracts to many of their customers, those who decide to accept a monthly plan will benefit from various perks. Some of the perks include access to one of Virgin Mobile’s many technologically advanced mobile phones and access to Virgin Mobile’s vast international network.

Virgin Mobile has recently released some of the most technologically advanced mobile phones, including the BlackBerry Bold, the Apple iPhone 3GS, the BlackBerry Curve, the Samsung M330, and the Novatel Wireless MiFi. With these new advanced phone to their customer’s disposal, Virgin Mobile is sure to attract the new client base.

  1. confused says:

Bell Canada owns Virgin, so I am confused…..

    • lol says:

we will never figure it ,makes no sence that bell owns acompany which is probably the most expensive carrier in north armerica to also own canadas least expensive.

  2. Not confused says:

Bell wasn’t mentioned once confused… no wonder your so confused…

  3. gordon says:

they are 2 different companies. yes bell owns them but they are 2 different companies much like future shop and best buy. they have there own customer service departments there own management team there own president and there own prices. the only thing thats the same is the towers which virgin uses bell.

  4. Frustrated with wireless says:

Yes indeed Bell owns Virgin 100% and continues to use their Virgin “brand”. God help us in Canada. Telus owns Kodoo, Rogers owns Fido , and now Bell owns Virgin Mobile Canada. Wow, talk about selling us Canadians out. Their is a flicker, tiny though it is, with Wind Mobile and Dave. I could rant on forever, but we all know the score. We get Royally Screwed and just continue to enjoy it! Thanks Brandson btw, I had faith and trust in you but you are just like the rest of them.

  5. Darryl says:

Bell doesn’t own Virgin. Bell merely has a license agreement with Virgin and provides network services.

    • Billy says:

Actually, Daryl, Bell DOES own Virgin Canada 100% – they acquired the remaining share late in 2009. Just ask anyone who uses them – the rates have gone up, and Virgin to Virgin texts are now full price. Thanks Bell, what did we ever do without you?

    • Eric says:

      @Darryl

Virgin Mobile Canada started off as a 50/50 joint venture between Bell and Virgin Group. Bell now owns the entire company, having bought out Virgin Group in June 2009.

    • Like_a_virgin says:

Bell owns 100% of Virgin. Started as licensing and partial ownership but recently into 100% ownership.

This announcement was all cosmetic, they’ve had an HSPA network at their disposal ever since Bell built theirs.

  6. Less confused says:

“…BCE moved to further drive wireless-customer growth by fully acquiring discount carrier Virgin Mobile Canada on Thursday(7 May 09)…Virgin Mobile Canada was half owned by Bell and its traffic piggybacked on the Quebec-based company’s nationwide network. Now Bell is buying the second half for $142-million dollars to both stuff new products its newly acquired electronics retailer The Source, and fend off a raft or new discount competitors expected over the next couple of years…”(Source: Jamie Sturgeon, Financial Post Published: Thursday, May 07, 2009

Virgin Mobile Canada is owned by BCE, not Virgin Mobile and yes, if you buy a mobile phone with Virgin Canada you’ll be using the same network. Hope this clears it up.
