With the introduction of three dimensional television expected to widely come into homes later this year, many would expect channels such as ESPN and movie channels to begin to broadcast in 3D. However, one channel that will begin to broadcast in HD, was not one that most people would expect.
On Tuesday, Catholic TV debuted television programs in three dimensions in an effort to attract younger people to their network. The television network also hopes to make the faith message more exciting and more vivid. The network has released a few shows in 3D online and hopes to broadcast a few on TV later this year.
While the Catholic church hopes to reach more family’s at home, 3D television may not be the quickest option. While 3D televisions will be available to the public very soon, the price tag may prevent many from purchasing one. It is expected that the 3D TVs will start at about $3,000. Also, all viewers will be required to wear special 3D glasses that can cost well over $100 each.
As of now, the Catholic TV network reaches about 6 million homes across the country. The channel is included in various paid cable TV packages.
