Several reports are stirring up concerning Facebook and their new privacy policy. The Federal Trade Commission has received complaints from fifteen consumer groups, which show concern regarding the new policy. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook recently changed the policy allowing the use of personal data from its users to be given to third-party websites.
Users who visit certain websites while logged into their Facebook accounts automatically receive downloaded programs on their computer. The reports filed through the FTC show concern about future privacy policies of Facebook. Several glitches in the privacy of the website have resulted in private messages sent out to individuals are being sent to an unintended recipient. It has been disovered that the more information users are willing to display on their accounts; the more it is being used by Facebook on ads posted on the internet.
In March of 2010 a San Jose Federal Judge ordered Facebook to pay a nine and a half million dollar sellement to plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit regarding the Beacon program on Facebook which was responsible for publishing information about what users were purchasing online.
Users have reason to show concern when it comes to the occurrences of identity theft. With this type of policy in place, it becomes a lot easier for predators to steal innocent victims information.
