Facebook is not new to the comings and goings of scammers. With a deep history of people trying to use peoples public profiles for private gain it should come as no surprise that Facebook is being bombarded with a new wave of scamming attempts.
Recently dozen of Facebook applications have been the source of thousands of cases of identity theft and stolen information. People become comfortable on their pages and don’t always check the credentials of the application they are downloading.
Recently dozens of applications that claim they support charities and donate proceeds to causes have been spreading like wildfire. Research into these application show that many have no affiliation with any charity or company and are simply taking the proceeds that they raise and sending them overseas into private back accounts.
Facebook has not commented on these attacks, however the Facebook community has been alerted to be cautious when downloading unfamiliar applications.
