Members of the of the Calgary Flames organization and their families have been vaccinated against the H1N1 virus in a private clinic while thousands of Albertans were in line to receive the vaccine, or were even denied.
Ken King, president of the NHL club said the players and their families have received their vaccines Friday. He said that the organization had contacted the health services in Alberta and asked a health clinic is available to him.
“They (the players) followed the direction of our medical staff and our organization.  We sought counsel and guidance on this matter and determined it appropriate given the facts available at the time. We accept full responsibility for our actions and decision,” the club said in a statement Tuesday.
This revelation comes as the Alberta government is increasingly criticized for the way he managed the program of vaccination against influenza H1N1. It was interrupted this weekend.
Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach said he had ordered an investigation when his government must deal with a shortage of vaccines.
“I can’t speculate on what happened, but we will have a fuller report very shortly,” Stelmach said Tuesday.

Calgary Flames Get H1N1 Vaccine Ahead of Priority Groups

Amazing, a bunch of Hockey players and their families are more important than the general public, how does that work? How about Police Officers, EMT workers, Hospital Staff, those much more likely to be exposed…were they given the option of a private clinic? Whoever made this decision needs to be held accountable!
I believe that this was a good decision by the hockey team. All these players are always together and flying all over the continent to play hockey.
This creates an excellent vessel for the virus to spread. Doesn’t anyone remember the outbreak of this same flu virus in 1918 that wiped out 50-100,000,000 people. Lets stop being so petty and realize that hockey players are people too.
They are people to. And should receive equal medical care. Except they travel throughout the the States and Canada, and our in alot more contact then most civilans. Excluding doctors, and emergency response units.
