Tim Lincecum’s Pot Problem

If a police officer in Oregon sees a long-haired 25-year-old driving a Mercedes at 74 mph in a 65 mph zone, what do you think is going to happen? Yes, he’s going to get pulled over. That’s what happened to 2008 NL Cy Young Award Winner, Tim Lincecum.

He was pulled over for speeding, but once he rolled his window down, the police officer smelled cannabis. Tim Lincecum, being a young man of integrity, immediately owned up to his mistake and admitted to having a pipe and 3.3 grams of marijuana on him. Since he’s a first time offender, his penalty will be reduced to what really amounts to a slap on the wrist.

Tim Lincecum isn’t the first professional athlete to be caught for marijuana possessions. Other greats like NFL wide receiver Randy Moss, NBA great Robert Parrish, and Olympian Michael Phelps have also been caught with the substance. Based on this list, it obviously doesn’t impair someone’s ability to perform at extremely high levels.

The interesting thing to see will be how people in the bay area respond to this event with Tim Lincecum. Knowing how liberal and forgiving they can be, they will probably embrace him.

well, first of all, the officer didn’t smell lincecum’s weed, he noticed the pipe on the floor of the passenger side. lincecum wasn’t even under the influence when he was pulled over. secondly, phelps wasn’t caught with weed, a picture went around of him taking bong hits.

This story about Tim went no where fast when it hit the national media, as much as the media tried to make it into a big deal, readers were more understanding about contemporary recreational drugs, including alcohol. Tim has nothing to apologize for.
