If  Cavaliers All-Star Lebron James really wants to be a multi-sport athlete, Cleveland Browns, coach Eric Mangini has an orange helmet waiting for him.

“I think he should come on down,” Mangini said, smiling. “I know he’s pretty busy right now, but if he wants to give it a shot, the guy is gifted. He’s competitive and tough. I’m sure whatever he applied himself to, he’d probably be good in baseball or soccer or swimming.”

James, who did play football in high school as a wide receiver said that with a bit of effort and commitment, he could be a football player.

“If I put all my time and commitment into it, if I dedicated myself to the game of football, I could be really good,” he said Tuesday night, “no matter what team I was on.”

Not everyone is aboard the Labron train though.

I suspect LeBron knows this and was just running his mouth when he suggested he’d like to give the NFL a try. In his excitement to talk about anything other than the Browns’ failure, Cleveland coach Eric Mangini quickly announced he’d welcome LeBron running seam routes for the Browns.

It’s too bad Cavaliers coach Mike Brown doesn’t have the necessary authority to tell James to spend his free time fantasizing about developing a consistent low-post game rather than feeding the media quotes about silly NFL dreams and Jordan’s jersey number.
