Roy Jones Jr. loses in first Round To Danny Green

Australian Danny Green has retained his crown of IBO cruiserweight title at the expense of Roy Jones Jr., by order of the referee in the first round Wednesday in Sydney.

Green, 36, floored Jones with a big right hand to the head after just one minute of the first round. Sensing Jones was in trouble, Green quickly made short work of Jones, who looked his age during the onslaught.

Green who raised his record to 28-3 with a technique knockout almost felt bad for beating Jones, who he looks up to.

“That almost hurt me to do that to someone whom I aspire to look up to as a professional fighter inside and outside the ring,” he said.

“I am just overwhelmed – this is the greatest victory in my entire life.”

It was only the sixth defeat for Jones since 1989. He tallied 54 victories during this period, including 40 by KO.

“I have got to take my hat off to Danny, it was a great performance. I guess now I go back into retirement,” said Jones following the match.
