Will Manning Stay in Indianapolis after 2010?

NFL quarterback Peyton Manning has become one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the game. Manning has been named MVP 4 times, played in the ProBowl 9 times and holds numerous passing records. He has led his team to the Superbowl again this year. His current contract will expire this year ahead of schedule because he has already met the minimum playtime requirements.

The owner of the Indianapolis Colts hopes to get ahead of the contract game by signing Manning in a record breaking salary deal. The 33 year old player would most likely finish his football career with the Colts if the deal is signed. He was drafted to the team in 1998 and has remained in Indianapolis ever since.

Manning is already one of the highest paid players in the NFL and this new deal will likely set the bar even higher. The deal will have to be structured to allow the Colts to keep other key players as well. The contract that expires this season was signed in 2004 to the tune of 99.2 million dollars. His contract was restructured following the 2006 Superbowl win. The restructure saved the team 8.2 million dollars in order to free up some salary cap space.
