Lindsey Vonn, who is an overwhelming favorite to medal in the upcoming Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, has suddenly found herself in some controversy. Vonn, who graces the cover of this weeks “Sports Illustrated,” was pictured on the cover in a somewhat sexually suggestive position.
In the photo (shown below), Vonn is seen skiing downhill at a sharp angle, which should not be offensive to anyone except she is completely bent over with her elbows on her knees. While this is a natural pose which is necessary for proper downhill skiing technique, the image has raised concerns from several sources.
Some sources are offended that Vonn is being idolized because she is physically attracted rather than her natural ability.
Lindsey Vonn is widely regarded as one of the world’s best female skiers and is likely to win a few medals at the games. The cover of the magazine, which came out on Wednesday, declares that Vonn is America’s best female skier ever.
Vonn was disappointed after the 2006 Olympic games when she was injured just prior to the event. While Vonn showed enough effort to fight through her injuries, she was not in any physical condition to actually win a medal at the games.
Does the image offend you?

Lindsey Vonn's SI Cover Photo Controversy

Really? Come on people. So you’re saying if I drop a dollar on the sidewalk and using proper form bending at the waist extending my arm to the sidewalk that it could be classified as sexually offensive. Find something else to report on. This is a woman athlete that has never been in the news for anything but being a great athlete. Just dreaming things up for a story.
I agree with Joe, this is the correct form that a downhill skier uses. Lindsey Vonn is a fantastic athlete and a very big favorite to win multiple medals at the Olympics. I might be skeptical if they had put a great looking athlete that didn’t have a shot at a medal but not with Lindsey.
Who finds this offensive? Those are the people whom I find offensive… the truly ignorant and those with inflexible, self-righteous beliefs who superimpose their perverted misconceptions on an athletic event.
The Bible said that whatever the “man” think in his heart so is he… My point? whoever finds this sexually offensive means that the only think they think obout is that, sex. Perverts!
OH MY GOD….the Canadians actually know about sexual positions!! What’s the world “Cumming” too! GEEZ, grow up people! Get your face out of the gutter, and your mind in reality!
What a slut… she’s just asking for it.
I pray that 2012 is real and comes quickly. Being an asshole seems to be an exponential disease
First of all, Paul, if you want to talk about the whole “2012 = End of the World” controversy, go to a forum for conspiracy theorists and share your thoughts there. It doesn’t matter even if you’re just saying that to be sarcastic; the whole idea is growing older than a moldy loaf of bread. Plus, this is not the appropriate forum for that.
Secondly…Melissa: I do agree that Vonn is a whore, but not for this photo. If you honestly think the cover shown in this article is racy, then you obviously haven’t seen the recent Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, which Derek is probably still fascinated with. Just one glance at that, and you’ll understand why I myself wish that the Olympics Committee had recalled her medals. I’m saying that, and I’m a freaking AMERICAN, for crying out loud!
Finally…Derek, don’t applaud Vonn’s swimsuit shoot. The kind of conduct she’s showing there is completely unprofessional for any athlete, especially an Olympian of her athletic caliber. Since I saw that SI Swimsuit Edition cover myself, I have placed Vonn in the same league as Serena Williams, Claire Bevilacqua, Gina Carano, and Sarah Reinersten for posing nude for alternating “collectable” covers of the November 2009 issue of ESPN’s magazine. That category, of course, would be “Fallen Female Champions”–or, more fittingly, the ABC (Amanda Beard Club), named so because of another former Olympic heroine turned cheap run-of-the-mill slut who deserves all her medals confiscated for disgracing herself for not just one, but TWO rag mags aimed toward an 18-35 male demographic who, in reality, hasn’t talked or otherwise cared about her for a good couple of years.
Seriously, I miss the days when the women who made an impact in sports down here in the good old USA were role models rather than nude models.
this has got to be the lamest thing that someone could really say is controversial! like give me a break!!
get lives people! especially the ones who say its suggestive!
Wow, umm..so clearly these people haven’t seen the new swimsuit issue in which she is definitely suggestive and I love every second of it
