A 13 year old boy had his dreams fulfilled yesterday, kind of. The aspiring quarterback was offered a football scholarship to USC. David Sills is a 7th grader who will not even graduate high school until the year 2015. Sills is still growing but he has been told by doctors he will probably grow to be at least 6 and a half feet tall.
USC coach Lane Kiffin made the offer during a phone conversation with the boy on Thursday night. The call came after Sills’ quarterback coach Steve Clarkson, phoned Kiffin and gave him the scoop on the kid. Clarkson has been working with Sills for 3 years. They meet once every 6 weeks or so in various parts of the country.
The verbal agreement was made after Kiffin watched a short video of Sills on YouTube and listened to the experienced quarterback coach.
Colleges are recruiting kids at earlier ages, but this is probably the youngest one yet. It seems a bit premature when he has not even had a chance to play in the high school league yet. The coach’s offer seems to be planning pretty far ahead, considering he tends to change schools or teams every 14 months or so.
