Canada- Roller derby can be a tough sport, but the Calgary father and son have shown some tough competition against twenty teams from five continents.
Steve and Brad Recsky have been hitting the track for few years with their local team in Calgary, the Glenmore Reservoir Dogs. They are into action now as the Men’s Roller Derby World Cup is about to begin Calgary.
Roller Derby has been the latest adventure for them as the father and the son can do the special things together. They are the only duo who will be playing in the international tournament.
Brad, 25 and Steve, 52 are both used to surprise their opponents. Steve said, “Someone comes up to me and says, ‘holy crap, I can’t believe that you’re Brad’s father.”
Dean Upston, an Australian player commented, “That’s awesome, man.” “We hope we can still be playing at that age.”
The Men’s Roller Derby World Cup begins 21st July and goes it 24th July at the Acadia Recreation Complex.
Brad enjoys his dads’ company and always heads into action with him. Steve said, “The fact that it’s here – in our hometown – where we were born and raised and we’re going to have our family here, you can’t beat that.”
