Belichick, who gambled that he could put the game away by getting a first down on fourth-and-2  from his own 28 with 2:08 to play.cost his team the game last night and left analysts and football fans scratching their heads through Monday morning.

“We thought we could win the game on that play,” Belichick told the media in his postgame news conference. “That was a yard we thought we could get.”

Tom Brady said “I don’t ever second guess Coach Belichick.”

“Bill obviously has more faith in the ability of his offense to get a yard than for his defense to keep Manning and the Colts from orchestrating a two-minute drive,” the former Ravens Coach Brian Billick said. “No one knows his team better than Bill. I do wonder what message it sends to the defensive players.”

Bill Belichick was named New England Patriots head coach in 2000, succeeding Pete Carroll. Under Belichick, the Patriots have gone 102–42 in nine regular seasons.
