Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar has pulled out of his upcoming fight with Junior Dos Santos, due to a recurrence of the diverticulitis that sidelined Lesnar’s career two years ago.

Former number one contender Shane Carwin will step into Lesnar’s spot, and take on Dos Santos in the upcoming fight. Carwin was defeated by Lesnar by submission in the second round when the two men met, following Lesnar’s fight bout with diverticulitis.

Lesnar claims that this will not end his fighting career, and he will return to actions as soon as possible. The severity of this current case of diverticulitis is unknown, however Lesnar’s first battle with the intestinal disorder left him weak, and unsteady for nearly a year.

Lesnar has contracted a case of diverticulitis, which is a stomach disorder where small sacs from in the lining of the intestine and become inflamed or infected, the disease is not uncommon but it affects each person differently.

This is not the first time Lesnar has had to miss action because of the disease, in 2009 he missed an extended period of time when he came down with a serious case of the disease that according to him threated his life.

Lesnar felt that the ailment was keeping him in pain during training and he would not be ready to fight.

Shane Carwin will step in and replace him in the fight against Dos Santos, with the winner getting a shot at Cain Velasquez for the Heavyweight Title.

When it comes to UFC events, people like action and surprises. This past Saturday at UFC 121, spectators got both.

In a highly anticipated bout in Anaheim, California, reigning UFC champion Brock Lesnar took on underdog Cain Velasquez. Lesnar has been the defending champion for the past year, though he has not participated in many fights. Regardless, the UFC legend retained his title in a match three weeks ago against Shane Carwin. After that performance, Lesnar was the heavy favorite entering the octagon against Velasquez.

However, Velasquez quickly overwhelmed Lesnar, using Lesnar lesser stamina against him. As Velasquez pounded his opponent, a TKO via strikes was declared at 4:21 in the first round.

Other bouts of the night included Matt Hamill over Tito Ortiz, Jake Shields over Martin Kampmann, Diego Sanchez over Paulo Thiago, Court McGee over Ryan Jensen, Tom Lawlor over Patrick Cote, and Brendan Schaub over Gabriel Gonzaga.

Lesnar Looking For Unique Fight?
The Undertaker a.k.a. Mark Callaway happen to know each other fairly well from their time working together in the WWE.

You can certainly understand why the Undertaker at such an advanced age would hesitate to take on Brock Lesnar in a UFC sponsored event. Brock Lesnar now has his second lose in the UFC and he has now lost his championship title as a fighter.

You happen to have a lot of people questioning now whether Lessnar was as legit as people were making him out to be following his loss to Cain Velaquez.

During a post fight interview following Lesnar’s UFC 121 loss, The Undertaker said to Lesnar as he walked by “You wanna do it?” Lesnar just kept walking.

When the interviewer asked The Undertaker about the comment, he said, “It’s kind of a personal thing.”

Lesnar and his handlers like Paul Heyman may now be wondering whether they may have to have a unique and one time fight against someone like the Undertaker in order to make sure that they can get a good buy rate (staged WWE fight)/

Lesnar may be interested in going back to professional wrestling after his loss to Cain Velaquez. UFC President Dana White has already ruled that out.

“He is not going to wrestle in the WWE,” White said. “He cannot wrestle, box or fight anywhere else.”

This weekend’s UFC 121 results delivered more than just a powerful blow to viewers.

The main event proved to be a shocking and mouth watering tidbit as the win was awarded during the first round at 4:12. Lesnar had come on strong to Cain Velasquez, when somehow Velasquez managed to deliver a few blows to Lesnar’s head.

Lesnar stumbled across the octagon, giving Velasquez the few precious seconds needed to deliver another series of blows to Lesnar’s head, resulting in a TKO and a win for Velasquez.

Jake Shields, who was making his UFC debut, found a narrow victory over seasoned opponent Martin Kampmann. The rather uneventful fight may have been lost when Kampmann decided to flip Shields’ own game on him. Instead of using his trademark strike force, Kampmann took Shields to the ground, hoping to force Shields into a submission. Unfortunate for Kampmann, the recently slimmed down Shields is best in grappling maneuvers. The fight was awarded to Shields, with one judge voting in 30-27, another at 29-28, and the final judge awarding a score of 29-28.

According to UFC president Dana White, Brock Lesnar is on the road to recovery.

“Leaving Bismarck, N.D. right now,” White stated via Twitter. “Brock had minor surgery and is feeling better.”

White said the heavyweight chapmion had been suffering from a bacterial infection in his intestinal track in addition to the mononucleosis.

While White was optimistic on Lesnar’s condition, he cautioned that the former NCAA wrestler was still very sick.

“Not 100 percent sure he is out of the woods, but feeling better,” White stated.

Lesnar’s condition has already twice forced the delay of a planned bout with top challenger Shane Carwin. Lesnar was supposed to headline UFC 105 this month.

I don’t know,” White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “I’ve got to get him to one of these really good hospitals with really good doctors to figure out what’s wrong and how we get him better.”

Many blogs and MMA websites have been discussing whether-or-not Lesner would retain his belt during his illness.

“If it’s a long wait, we’re gong to have to do something,” White said. “The last thing I ever want to do is strip a guy who won a title. That’s the last thing I want to do. I don’t know if we’ll have to do an interim or what we’ll do to fix it.”

UFC heavy weight champion Brock Lesnar is facing the biggest fight of his life – the fight for his life.

During his ‘recovery’ time in Canada, Lesnar collapsed and was hospitalized. Now he is being transferred to the Mayo Clinic where he will undergo major surgery to hopefully repair his intestines.

UFC President, Dana White says that Lesnar is “very, very sick.” and that ”there’s a possibility Lesnar will never fight again.”

In another report, White said, “He doesn’t have cancer or AIDS or anything like this, (but) he’s got some problems.” In a third report, White says he, “is very very sick (and) will require major surgery.” Even with that, “There’s a possibility Lesnar will never fight again.”

According to MMAFrenzy.com, if Lesnar does require surgery and remains out for the foreseeable future, an interim heavyweight title matchup between Carwin and Cain Velasquez is likely to take place in February or March.

The 32-year-old began his career in amateur wrestling before joining the WWE, where he won three championships and become the youngest person at the time to hold such a title.

In 2004 Lesnar tried his hand at football during the preseason for the Minnesota Vikings, but was a late cut and returned to wrestling in 2005.

He didn’t begin training in MMA until the summer of 2007, and garnered a contract with the UFC that October. He lost his initial match against Frank Mir, but has won every other fight since then, including a Mir rematch during UFC 100 earlier this summer.

UDPATE:

Things seem to be going from bad to worse for UFC champ Brock Lesnar.

The heavyweight fighter, who was originally supposed to headline UFC 106 on Nov. 21 against undefeated MMA specialist Shane Carwin, is seriously ill.

“He’s in rough shape, he’s in really bad shape,” UFC president Dana White told fans on Saturday after UFC 105.

“He’s in a hospital up in North Dakota somewhere right now. He went to Canada and some bad stuff happened to him, so we’ve got to figure it out … He doesn’t want to talk about it publicly, but he’s in bad shape. He’s not well and he’s not going to be getting well any time soon.”

“There’s a possibility Lesnar will never fight again,” White said.

White added that the fighter isn’t suffering from cancer or AIDS, but admitted Lesnar has mono and “something else.” There was some speculation Lesner was suffering from H1N1. SportsNet (Canada) suggested that the former WWE star may have contract lyme disease from a tic bite.

For now, Lesnar’s fight against Carwin has been postponed until UFC 108, to take place Jan. 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The light heavyweight bout pitting Tito Ortiz in a rematch against Forrest Griffin has become the new headline event for UFC 106.
