Cameron Douglas, the 31-year-old son of the Academy Award-winning actor, Michael Douglas, was sentenced yesterday in a New York court to five years jail time. The sentencing came as a result of his guilty plea to trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine in connection with his 2009 arrest. Cameron initially faced 10 years, but was sentenced to five with eight months credit for time which he has already served.

The young Douglas seemed remorseful when he told the court yesterday before his sentencing, “I apologize to my family and my loved ones for putting them through this nightmare of my making.”

It was a dramatic scene as Michael cried when his son spoke to the judge and Diandra Douglas, Michael’s ex-wife and mother to the boy, mouthed “I love you” to him.

Last month Michael and ex-wife Diandra along with many other family members wrote letters to the judge asking for leniency in the sentence. They petitioned the judge for Cameron to do his jail time in a drug treatment facility rather than a prison.

According to police reports, the vehicle, which is a 2003 Chevy Malibu, was originally stolen out of Lapeer, Michigan, which is a community located 50 miles northwest of Detroit.

The man, who was robbed just before midnight this past Thursday. He was robbed near the intersection of Wolcott Street and University Avenue. The incident happened just a few blocks from the main campus of the University of Michigan-Flint campus. Flint, Michigan is widely regarded as one of the most crime ridden cities, and it has been largely affected by high unemployment.

At the moment, police and other authorities have not been willing to reveal any additional details about either the armed robbery accusation or the auto theft charges. The man, who is accused of originally stealing the Chevy Malibu, has not been publicly named by police.

The woman’s boyfriend wanted to leave her narcotics so he dropped them off in the jury box just before her sentencing.

No surprise, the move has now ended up causing both parties to go to jail.

This all occurred just minutes after an elementary school class was leaving the court room after learning a little bit about how the justice system worked.

Some in the media may say that the woman and her boyfriend may also need a Civics lesson in order to learn about the ins and outs of the American justice system.

The couple is now both facing some serious prison time for trying to execute a drug deal on federal property. They will not be in the same cell together of course either, so it will be interesting to see whether the two will remain each other’s love interest once they get out of jail. They will both reportedly be represented by the Pueblo County Public Defender. They both deserve a full and honest trial despite what many people would consider to be a stupid action. It would be interesting to hear what kind of defense the couple will use.
