</strong><br />
Many people start off the new year with resolutions. However, by a few weeks into January these resolutions have been tossed aside, leaving the one who made them feeling bad about themselves. </p>
<p>Many wonder just how to keep new year resolutions. It is not as difficult as you may think. </p>
<p><strong>Be Realistic</strong></p>
<p>The first and most important thing to remember is to be realistic. You do not have to start the year with a long list of things to change. Choose the most important and work on those first. </p>
<p><strong>Set Priorities</strong></p>
<p>Too often people start off with so many resolutions that they have set themselves up for failure from the start. Choose what you feel is most important and work on it each day. </p>
<p><strong>Don&#8217;t Give UP</strong></p>
<p>If you fail one day and go back to your old ways, that is OK. You can start over tomorrow. One set back does not mean you have to give up. Keep working at it and you will succeed.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There is a new diet sweeping across France, selling over 3.5 million copies, and is being called the new life-long weight loss plan. </p>
<p>Why hasn’t’ Americans heard about it? They will, starting next month when the new Dukan Diet book makes it debut in America. The New York Times is reporting that Dr. Pierre Dukan has sold the Rights to North America for a whopping $1.3 million dollars. </p>
<p>Some critics are saying that the Dukan Diet is just the French version of the popular American Atkins diet. It is filled with high-protein, low-fat meals designed for four phases: attack, cruise, consolidation, and stabilization. The first stage is to eat what you want of nonfat and protein rich foods. The second stage is to eat vegetable but no fruit. The third stage includes a serving of bread, cheese, fruit, and two servings of carbohydrates. The fourth state is eating what you want with one day a week reverting to stage one.</p>
<p>The final stage is to be done the remainder of your life to maintain an ideal weight and health. The New York Time says the diet has now become a staple of French culture.<br />

With today’s rising costs of healthcare yet declining salaries it is essential that Americans find ways to sneak exercise into their daily routines. Exercise can also help combat stress, which is increasing along with the American waistline.</p>
<p>There are many painless ways to sneak exercise into your day. For example, those that have a desk job can use their chair to do triceps dips and even exercise their abs, by using their arms to support their body weight and raising their knees. Also, one can use their lunch break to add some extra steps to their pedometer for the day.</p>
<p>Those that are unemployed, or work from home, can be even more creative with sneaking exercise into their day. For example, simple stairs can be used to run up and down for an excellent cardio workout, or one can use the bottom step and march in place from the floor to the first step for a toning routine.<br />

The best exercise for a washboard stomach can be done at home or at the gym and requires no equipment other than an exercise mat or a rug. </p>
<p>The bicycle crunch is performed by lying flat on your back and alternately drawing one knee up to your chest while crunching up towards the raised knee. </p>
<p>This exercise has been proven to be very effective for the rectus abdominus and the obliques.</p>
<p>At the gym, The Captian’s Chair can be just as effective. This involves resting your entire body weight on your forearms while pulling both legs up into the chest. </p>
<p>This is an excellent workout for the obliques and does well for the rectus abdominus as well. </p>
<p>While this piece of equipment works well, not all ab equipment is as beneficial. </p>
<p>The Ab Rocker by Body by Jake has been found to not be as effective as a traditional crunch.<br />

<p>Mix it up and change it up. You don&#8217;t have to follow the same routine or push out the same numer of repetions each time you workout. In the beginning, motivation is found through goals such as wanting to lose a few pounds and tone your body. After as little as a couple of months, some find they need additional drive.</p>
<p>Listen to your body and hear what your mind is telling you. If you feel sluggish and tired, maybe you are. Perhaps an additional day off is the answer. Maybe you need to change your approach. Why not take your pup for an extra long walk or blow off the gym completely and in place go ice skating or play tennis.</p>
<p>Exercise needs to be fun and pushing yourself through the same boring daily routines will only lead you to fatigue and failure. Keep yourself active through a variety of activities and you will find it much easier to complete your goals and begin enjoying the body you desire.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There is a small town called Taylor in British Columbia that is fighting a huge uphill battle. </p>
<p>When one of their newest community members arrived she noticed a huge health issue in the tiny town.</p>
<p>Dr. Ali Zentner noticed as she looked around the small town and met many of the townspeople that many were overweight. </p>
<p>It is estimated that nearly 60% of the people in this town are considered to be obese. There are roughly 1300 residents in Taylor making the obesity number quite alarming. </p>
<p>The only grocery store in town doubles as a gas station. The choices of healthy food are very limited. The schools have even noticed that the shirts they order for the school children are adult size large and extra large. Because of this alarming epidemic Dr. Zentner has started a challenge for the residents. </p>
<p>This is a challenge of eating healthier and moving thier bodies. </p>
<p>The whole town is in on the challenge which is helping to keep one another motivated and on track with their food decisions. </p>
<p>It seems when doing this as a group there are more people you are answering too and hopefully this will be the answer to the epidemic.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>March 1, 2010 – Those pressed for time to carry out a regular exercise regiment will welcome the latest news from research conducted on the matter. In what is called interval training, individuals can engage in intensive workout routines for short periods of time and derive better results than going through the daily grind of long workout sessions. </p>
<p>By putting the body through quick, intensive exercise sets with brief periods of rest in between, research has proven that endurance, strength and speed will increase at a higher percentage rate than it would by performing the more conventional type of exercise routine. </p>
<p>For several hours following a short, intense work-out, carbohydrates and fat will burn as the metabolism rate descends from its sharp rise. Olympic athletes have been using interval training for some time now, with exceptional results. It was originally believed that it would be too physically demanding for non-professional athletes to adopt the same style of training. However, the basic concept informing interval training can be employed by the general public to achieve faster and better results without expending too much time. Experts caution that non-elite athletes should not overdo the intensity of the training, but rather take it slowly at first and build up to a more strenuous pace as the body adjusts to the new style of exercise.</p>

<p>People may no longer have excuses not to exercise. Many people claim that there are just not enough hours in their day to exercise correctly. Interval training, experts say, can take an entire week’s worth of exercising and shrink it down to one hour.</p>
<p>Interval training is a technique that was designed for Olympic athletes, and it has been thought that the routine would be too difficult for most people. However, new studies show that older people and people with health problems have used the technique successfully. Experts say that this technique could revolutionize workouts everywhere.</p>
<p>Intense interval training requires working hard for a period of time, with a short rest and then repeating it. Experts say that a four set series of four minute sets including three minutes of rest is enough. It has been tested for running and biking and is expected to work with rowing and swimming as well.</p>
<p>Interval training is said to be twice as efficient as normal exercise. It can double a person’s endurance, and increase strength and oxygen by 10 percent. A person’s speed can also be increased by at least 5 percent. </p>

<p>Here&#8217;s a 10 minute no-equipment program that works the entire body from Peter Park, fitness expert for LIVESTRONG.com and Lance Armstrong&#8217;s strength and conditioning coach.</p>
<p>Note: Park recommends doing the workout twice a day for better posture, a stronger core and a balanced body.</p>
<p><strong>THE WORKOUT:</strong></p>
<p>1. Chair Pose (This works the lower back, hamstrings): Stand with your feet 15 centimetres apart. Bend your knees slightly and push your hips back. Lift your arms up above your head as high as possible while looking straight ahead. Keep your weight on your heels. Hold the pose for 30 seconds.</p>
<p>2. Glute Bridge (For the glutes): Lie on your back with your arms at your side, palms down by your hips, knees bent at 90 degrees. Your feet should be 15 centimetres apart and flat on the floor. Push up through your heels to lift your hips as high as possible while squeezing the glute muscles. Hold for 15 seconds. Then lower. Repeat four times.</p>
<p>3. Plank (For your abs, core): Lie flat on your stomach with your toes touching the floor. Place your elbows directly under your shoulders with your forearms flat on the ground. Using your abs, lift your hips in the air until your body is parallel to the floor in a push up position. Squeeze your glutes and brace your abdominals while holding a rigid plank position. Hold for 30 seconds. Then lower. Repeat.</p>
<p>4. Back Extension (For the lower back): Lie flat on your stomach, your arms at your sides, with your legs extended straight behind you, heels touching and toes on the floor. Squeeze legs together. Press your elbows into your ribcage. Lift your hands off the floor. Raise your chest into the air while keeping your feet on the ground. Then lower. Do two sets of 15 repetitions. On the last rep of each set, hold the highest position possible for an additional 15 seconds.</p>
<p>5. Hip Flexor Stretch (For the hip flexors, quads): Step into a long lunge. Lift arms straight above your head and extend them back slightly. Bend your torso back and away from the rear leg to stretch the side of the body. Hold for 30 seconds. Do the same on the other side.</p>
<p>6. Wall Squat (Legs): Press your back flat against a wall, legs shoulder width apart. Slide down until knees are bent about 90 degrees. Keep your upper back against the wall and raise your arms completely above your head. Keep your head, back and arms firmly against the wall. Hold for 45 seconds.</p>
<p>7. Negative Push Up (Arms): Move into the plank position, and slowly lower body evenly to the ground, holding strong through the core. The negative push up should take 15 seconds from top to bottom, in a constant slow motion.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>According to reports, Canadian singer Nelly Furtado has blasted Madonna over her freakish effort to look young and the lengths she goes to maintain her looks.</p>
<p>Furtado insists that she will never try and cheat father time in order to reverse the aging process, and would rather just sit around her kitchen and eat instead.</p>
<p>“I am not ready to adjust physically, just to be marketable. My sell-by date will run out eventually,” she said.</p>
<p>“Unlike Madonna, I wouldn’t be willing to do Pilates round the clock, just to slow down the deterioration of my body. I prefer to sit in the kitchen, drink tea and eat biscuits,” she added.</p>
<p>Furtado recently revealed that she rewrote her new album, Mi Plan, just to please her daughter.</p>
<p>“I had English writer’s block so I decided to make an album in Spanish,” she said. “I played it to my daughter and she said to me, ‘Mummy there are too many slow songs. You need more fast songs.’</p>
<p>“So mummy went back to the studio and put a couple more fast songs on the album.</p>
<p>“She’s like a little A and R person and is pretty musical for her age.”</p>
