The fact that his father Nick Clooney used some of his son’s Hollywood connections in order to raise money for Nick’s campaign for Congress in Kentucky probably did not do Nick Clooney any favors as he was looking for votes in that rural, blue collar district.

Elisabetta Canalis, best known for being George Clooney’s latest girlfriend, might have a new role soon. The 31 year-old Italian model is in talks to play a recurring role as a secret agent in the TNT Network drama “Leverage”. Canalis is said to be excited about the part because she wants to break into American television.

In addition to modeling in Italy, Canalis has made several television appearances on various Italian shows such as “Total Request Live” and “Festivalbar”. In America, she has had small roles in a couple of movies, including “Deuce Bigelow”. While most Americans are only familiar with Canalis as George Clooney’s girlfriend, the upcoming role in “Leverage” would be her first big acting break in America.

Clooney and Canalis have been dating since last September. She will be accompanying him to the Oscars on March 7th. It is rumored that while she is in town for the Oscars she will begin filming scenes for “Leverage”.

A representative the actor dismissed reports that he had proposed to the model, 31, insisting the couple, who have been dating since last summer, have no plans to exchange vows.

“People are always trying to marry me off, thinking I am suffering in some way. I tried marriage – and it didn’t work. I have had long relationships with women and they get bored with me working all the time. My fear is that I would still make a lousy husband and I don’t want to put myself, or anyone else, through the pain of finding out.”

Despite his bachelor status, the 48-year-old actor insists marriage isn’t for him, although admits there have been times when he’s had his doubts and wonders if marrying for the first time when he was older would have worked out better.

He told Reveal magazine, “Have I had doubts? Of course. But I don’t have time to think about them, because I am always traveling and working.

“Had marriage come later in life, I would probably have understood better how to make it work.”
