British Airways has come under criticism once again, and just as strike fears flare up again, this time for giving preferential treatment to ex-Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his aides – at the expense of a heavily pregnant woman, her husband and several other confirmed passengers on the flight from Oman to London via Abu Dhabi.

Six passengers confirmed in Club class were told at check-in that they would have to be downgraded due to ‘overbooking.’ This included a seven-month pregnant woman who had paid the extra £700 just to ensure the extra legroom. Several other passengers were prevented from boarding all together!

On the short hop from Oman to Abu Dhabi the seats sat empty, but upon arrival, they were filled by a small entourage including the former PM. Immediately it became obvious that the aggrieved passengers had been bumped for the ex-politician.

BA has strongly refuted this, but have offered ‘derisory’ compensation to those affected.

In a speech to the Royal College of Defense Studies, Prime Minister Gordon Brown charged the Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai of being incompetent. Prime Minister warned the president that he would lose Great Britain’s support if the situation in Afganistan did not begin to show some improvement.

The prime minister’s remarks were interpreted as denouncing Afganistan’s President Hamid Karzai and suggesting that the president was willfully not choosing to improve the positioning of the government’s control over terrorist factions in Afganistan.

Such a charge of corruption against the president caused many of the Prime Minister’s own foes in his government of to criticize the prime minister of blustering and making threats that the prime minister could not in effect carry out without their support.

The Prime Minister’s speech to the Royal College of Defense Studies was given on November 6, to mixed reviews from other interested parties in the government and elsewhere.
