Blaming poor financial management by former business manager Samuel Levin, A-list actor Nicolas Cage has pledged to pay $14 million in back taxes and penalties to the IRS. The government recently slapped Cage with a tax lien of nearly $6.3 million on his real estate holdings as a means of collecting on a bill from 2002-2004. A $6.7 million lien has been filed against him for the 2008 tax year.

Cage claims Levin mismanaged his finances including investing in shaky real estate ventures, over charging him for services, and failing to pay the actor’s taxes, all leading to the financial mess he now finds himself in. He filed a $20 million suit against Levin in October 2009. Levin has denied the allegations claiming through his lawyer that he warned Cage about his “compulsive, self-destructive spending.” A counter suit was filed by Levin’s attorney last November.

In an exclusive statement with People Magazine, Cage asserted he was getting his financial house in order and would pay all back taxes. Referring to his severed relationship with Levin, Cage said, “However, I am under new business management and am happy to say that I am current for 2009. All taxes will be paid including any to-be-determined state taxes.”

Cage’s tax problem has been well known to the general public. Last August, the IRS made public their demand letter to Cage which requested $6.2 million for unpaid taxes from 2007.

TMZ reports that the current outstanding balance relates largely to unpaid taxes from 2002 and 2004. Cage also has reportedly defaulted on a tax related $2 million loan in October.

The actor seems committed to repaying his debt saying that he has paid over $70 million in taxes over the course of his career an that he will bring all outstanding balances current. Cage claims that his tax issue is due to financial mismanagement by his former business manager, Samuel Levin. Cage is currently in a legal battle with his former manager.

Apparently Nicolas Cage and a current business partner had plans to sell his ex-wife’s house. His former wife Cristina Fulton was reportedly going to call a press conference in order to discuss with the press how unfair the process of selling her home would be to her. She also planned to discuss some of the allegedly evil things Cage has done to her in the past.

Nicholas Cage and his business partner threatened a counter suit if Ms. Fulton went forward with the press conference. The fact of the matter appears to be that after being faced with this reality Ms. Fulton called off her lawsuit. Cage has had marital problems in the past; He was briefly married to Lisa Marie Presley.

He also has been feuding with Ms. Fulton for years off and on. Cage also has run into trouble with the Internal Revenue Service as of last and may have been trying to sell that home in order to pay off some of his alleged tax debt. Nicholas Cage was fairly candid in a recent interview by saying that film led him down the right path in life.

Christina Fulton says the actor dragged her down with him and has forced her into a $1.2-million debt.

Fulton claims fraud and breach of contract in her complaint.

“This lawsuit is ridiculous and absurd. Nicolas Cage has given her approximately three million every year for many years, even though he was only obligated to pay her six thousand a month in child support. We expect this lawsuit to be promptly thrown out,” his lawyer tells PEOPLE.

In 1988, Cage began dating Christina Fulton, mother of their son, Weston Coppola Cage, but they never married.

Cage owes more than $6.3M in back taxes and he defaulted on a $2M dollar loan after his former financial adviser allegedly scammed him out of millions.

Cage’s former business manager is firing back at accusations claiming he drove the star to financial ruin. Samuel Levin has filed a countersuit against the Leaving Las Vegas actor, accusing Cage of squandering his own fortune.

Initially cage stated that his financial woes were Levin’s fault.

Levin claims by the time he was hired in 2001, “Coppola [Cage] had already squandered tens of millions.”

Moreover, he owed millions in taxes “with no funds available to pay them.”

In his countersuit, Samuel Levin, CPA, says when he was hired he warned Nic Cage he needed to earn $30 million a year just to maintain his lavish lifestyle.

In 2007 alone, Cage bought three homes totaling $33 million-plus, 22 cars (including 9 Rolls Royces), 12 pieces of expensive jewelry and 47 pieces of art.

Last week the 45-year-old actor lost two of his New Orleans homes due to foreclosure auction.

The multi-million dollar homes, which are located in the French Quarter and Garden District of New Orleans, went back to the original lender, Regions Bank.

Cage’s 10,300 sq-foot property at 1140 Royal Street went for $2.3 million, while the 13,200 sq-foot home at 2523 Prytania Street sold for $2.2 million.

The collective $4.5 million is only two-thirds of the value of the two properties as determined by a Birmingham, Alabama appraiser hired to assess their worth.

Cage, 47, might be one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood but he is currently facing major financial problems, owing $6.3 million in back taxes, after being ripped off millions of dollars by his longtime business manager, Samuel J. Levin.

According to a lawsuit filed on October 16, Levin “lined his [own] pockets with several million dollars in business management fees while sending Cage down a path toward financial ruin.”

Cage says he “relied on Levin to handle his financial affairs to ensure that he and his family would have a financially secure future built on the foundation of the substantial monies Cage earned through years of hard work.”

“He is now forced to sell major assets and investments at a significant loss and is faced with huge tax liabilities because of Levin’s incompetence, misrepresentations and recklessness,” the lawsuit alleges.

This summer, the IRS placed a tax lien of over $6 million on Cage’s New Orleans homes for unpaid income taxes. Very sad, but it’s hard not to look at Cage’s extreme spending and not draw conclusions about his money woes.

Of course, however lavishly Cage spent on himself, he’s also been a very generous guy. The actor gave $1 million to the Red Cross to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina, and $2 million to the human-rights group Amnesty International.
