Maya Moore, the University of Connecticut standout is once again making news for women basketball players around the world. Michael Jordan has one of most recognized brand of basketball sneaker in the free world.

There have been many superstars like Jordan who have wore the sneakers and carved out their own niche of superstardom; however, there has never been a women basketball icon to endorse the Jordan brand until Wednesday.

Maya Moore is possibly the best women college basketball player ever. Minnesota Lynx selected Moore with the first pick of the draft; however, on Wednesday, she was selected first again. Moore became the first woman basketball player to sign an endorsement deal with the Jordan Brand.

It is a great honor; however, it is difficult to imagine why other great players such as Lisa Leslie and Tina Charles that came before Moore were unable to get the chance she received Wednesday.

Nike made a good choice, because Maya Moore is a basketball star that definitely deserves to endorse the Jordan Brand.

Footlocker debuted the new Cool Grey Air Jordan Retro 11 at midnight last night. The shoe retailer is reporting strong sales of the latest shoe in the Michael Jordan line.

The sneakers are based on the same ones Jordan wore in his final game as a Bull during a road game against the Knicks played at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The shoes retail from $40 to $175, depending on size and color choice. Footlocker had extra security at many of its retailers last night during the event due to looting of some stores last year during the release of a popular Nike shoe.

On April 7th, Nike aired the latest Tiger Woods Nike commercial. Filmed all in black and white, Tiger stands alone, staring into the camera. The voice is his father, Earl Woods is speaking. Tiger appears to be listening.

The 23 second long commercial has cause a controversy among casual sports fans, the media, as well as golf purist. Some have indicated possible infringement issues because of using the voice of someone who did not directly give permission to have their voice used. Others feel like he’s trying to hard to get back in the public’s good graces. Many members of the media have expressed that it’s to early for Tiger to start making commercials again-that he must first take care of his family issues, then prove himself again on the golf course. Some have even said the commercial is boring.

Yet Nike (the only company that did not drop Tiger as their sponsor) has never backed away from using Tiger to grab the worlds attention. Remember “Hello World” and “I am Tiger Woods” commercials? Whether you like the ad or not, Nike has acheived it’s purpose: get everyone to watch, and get everyone to talk about it. Mission accomplished Nike.

While we have known for a couple weeks that Tiger Woods would rejoin the professional golfing circuit next month, it now appears that he is continuing his other profession, advertising.

According to sources, Tiger Woods shot a new commercial for Nike this past Thursday. Reportedly, the golfer was filmed while wearing his standard black and red outfit during the event. The commercial was filmed at the Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Florida, which is the city in which Woods resides.

In years past, Tiger Woods was the most advertised sports athlete in the world. However, following news of his personal transgressions that came to light last fall, a few of Woods’ key sponsors broke off their contracts with Woods. However, while some companies broke off their agreements with Woods, Nike stayed on because they still considered him the best golfer in the world. Following the incident, some economists estimated that Woods’s transgressions would end up costing his advertisers billions of dollars.

While many of Woods’ sponsors have backed out, it remains to be seen how they will react after he resumes his career. If Woods’s continues to excel as a golfer, it is widely expected that he will regain some of the sponsorships that he lost.

There are hints of a normal life returning for Tiger Woods. Sources report that he began shooting a new commercial for Nike last week.

Among the rash of mistresses falling out of the woodwork late last year, something else began dropping as well for the pro-golfer Tiger Woods: his sponsorships. While some of Woods’ biggest sponsors, such as Gillette and Buick, released him due to the allegations of his affairs, one stuck by his side. Amid all the rumors, Nike stepped forward to voice their complete support of Woods. Sources report that the pro-golfer has begun shooting ads with them again this past week.

Sources report that Nike shot a new ad featuring the golfer last week near his hometown at the Isleworth Country Golf Course. A stand in was used on Wednesday in order to plan and prepare for the commercial. Woods arrived on Thursday to shoot the ad in his trademark red and black gear. Sources say that the process did not take long at all and that Woods was in and out of there very quickly.

Woods is set to return to the game of golf, after a self-imposed sabbatical,l for the Augusta National on April 8th.

According to ESPN, Michael Jordan’s son Marcus cost his school $3-million sponsorship deal.

The aspiring basketball player decided to wear a pair of the now famous “Air Jordans” during a game.

Reports suggest the University of Central Florida player insisted on wearing a pair of white Air Jordans during an exhibition game Wednesday nght.

The shoes had no prominent logos and were worn along with Adidas ankle supports.

Adidas spokeswoman Andrea Corso said in an e-mail to the Orlando Sentinel, “The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to adidas. As a result we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward.”

In response, UCF Athletics Director Keith Tribble said late Wednesday that he did not know the Adidas agreement was official.

“There’s really not much I can say because I don’t know anything about it and have not heard anything official from adidas about our agreement,” Tribble said. “As I said before, we spoke with adidas officials throughout this process and were continuing contract negotiations with them. I have not seen anything in writing or heard directly from adidas about a change in our relationship.”
