Threats against lawmakers that have been reported recently have been attributed to Tea Party members, although no proof is yet available. Tea Party members, not letting the Democrats get ahead of them, are condemning the violence and threats of violence.

Some Tea Party people are claiming that they do not advocate violence or threats of violence against those that disagree with their positions. They claim, since their inception last year, they too have been receiving violent threats. The Tea Party people claim that these acts of violence and threats are coming from “lone wolves” who are not part of the movement. Some Tea Party members and groups have sent an open letter to the President and to Congress condemning the tone of the recent debate and condemning all violence.

House Majority leader Steny Hoyer, Democrat of Maryland, has said that more than 10 members of Congress have endured threats or harassment. The Democrats are also trying to make political gains by placing responsibility for all the violence and threats at the door of Republicans and more specifically Tea Party members. Until proof is presented, no group should be found guilty in the advocacy and carrying out of violent acts against government officials.

The ongoing problems of the Roman Catholic Church concerning how it dealt with the child abuse scandal, manifested itself recently, with a situation concerning an American priest in Wisconsin. The Rev. Lawrence Murphy in the 1960′s, on four occasions molested Steven Geier in a closet at St. John’s School for the Deaf, outside of Milwaukee. When the youth complained, the priest said, “Oh, yes. God sent me. This is confession.” The priest was excusing his action placing the blame on God, a new low for the clergy.

Geier is only one of some 200 students who claimed to be molested by the very same priest. They were molested in dormitories, on field trips and in the confessional. The priest was not defrocked back in the 1990′s when the information surfaced. He was protected by Cardinal Ratzinger, now the Pope, who led the Vatican office that investigated such matters.

The Vatican went on the defensive defending the decision not to defrock the Rev. Lawrence Murphy. It called the campaign against the Church a smear campaign. Recently, an issue about defending a German priest came to light when the then Cardinal Ratzinger was in charge of the Munich Archdiocese. Murphy died in 1998.

Has the Republican Party created a monster they can’t control? That’s the question that is circling around Washington these days as the fight over health care reform has come to a head. At what was billed as the last anti-reform Tea Party of the year, many of the partiers seemed to get more unruly than usual. Racial epithets were hurled at black Democratic congressmen, and openly gay member, Barney Frank was referred to with a hateful term for homosexual.

While for the most part, the GOP has applauded and mostly endorsed the efforts of the Tea Party, but their most recent actions and words are going to make it hard for the GOP to support the Tea Partiers without losing some support from Independents.

Minority Leader Mark Boehner came out on Sunday morning and called the racial epithets “reprehensible” while the rest of the Republican party, including the chair of the GOP, Michael Steele who is an African-American.

The crossing of a line that has not been openly crossed since the beginning of the civil rights movement puts the Republican Party in a precarious position. The Tea Parties clearly have some political clout, but their behavior over the weekend might make it impossible for even some of the more right wing members of the GOP to openly align themselves with the movement if they wish to be reelected.

Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina, though not admitting guilt, has agreed to pay $74,000 for campaign spending and travel violations of state ethic laws. He was charged with 37 ethics violations relating to travel, using taxpayer money for commercial and state aircraft. This comes to $2,000 per charge.

This is all related to his fling with an Argentine woman, which caused his marriage to end up in divorce. The divorce was finalized Thursday between the Governor and his wife Jenny. She had been separated since the news broke about the Governor’s Argentine “soul mate.”

Last summer the Governor went missing and the whole crazy affair began to break in the news. The Governor was sneaking off to see an Argentine woman he had met by corresponding online. Some embarrassing information leaked about his “soul mate” affair, as he referred to her in emails. It was funny how the Governor disappeared and then made up an odd story about being in the woods.

The Governor was known for doing odd things even before the incident. He used to dig holes on his property to relieve tension. A child fell into one of these holes and the Governor had to make restitution to the child’s family.

With the Republicans short of stimulating candidates, General Petraeus is once again being touted as the opposition candidate for the election of 2012. He is being pushed by Congressman Peter King (R) NY. Comparisons between General Petraeus and General Dwight D. Eisenhower are being heard more frequently.

General Petraeus gained credibility when he turned President Bush’s “surge” into a success when prosecuting the war in Iraq. Almost everyone thought that the “surge” would be a failure but it turned out to be one of President Bush’s rare successes.

The General nor his advisers have hinted of a possible run in 2012, but these denials are part and parcel of the game of politics. The General’s relationship with Obama is not like it was with President Bush. The two of them sometimes went mountain biking in Washington, D.C.

General Petraeus is not endowed with a great personality and his actual combat record is not spectacular. Still, if America becomes disenchanted with President Obama and there are no other stimulating candidates on the Republican side, General Petraeus could be a “dark horse” choice.

Until the time of decision, General Petraeus will keep his head down. However, he does have a proven track record of getting along with Congress, which might make him a desirable candidate in 2012.

Many politicians on the Left continue to shun Fox News appearances. This cannot be said for Congressman Dennis Kucinich and President Obama. The President will appear on Fox News, to be interviewed by Bret Baier on Wednesday and it is described as an “exclusive” interview. The interview will take place on the 6 PM show Special Report.

The main topic will be Health Care Reform. Bret Baier will also try to get some information on what is on the President’s agenda for the remainder of the year. Over the past year, Fox News and the White House have not been on the best of terms. Recently, the Communications Director for the White House Anita Dunn charged that Fox was not a legitimate news network. In response to this, Fox News network head, Roger Ailes conceded that Fox displays a lot of opinion in its news shows.

In the past, the First Lady has appeared on the Huckabee Show and Fox White House correspondent Major Garrett did interview President Obama. It should not be earth shattering because the people want to see the President interviewed by a competent correspondent, no matter what network it is. Major Garrett and Brett Baier present intelligent interviews, leaving the network philosophy out of their questions.

President Obama’s agenda is still on track. This week his major policy initiative, the Health Bill will face a final showdown. The President has kept Health Care in the forefront of his agenda, pushing for the whole pie, instead of pieces of the plan, which would be more assured of passage.

The revival of the economy, through further stimulus measures is still on the agenda. Though a comprehensive and expensive stimulus program will not pass, here the President is going to push smaller programs, with a goal of putting America back to work. Strengthening Social Security and the education system is still being pushed as witnessed by recent Obama pronouncements.

Energy independence and climate change initiatives are still on the burner. The President has again vowed to increase support for Green measures along with an increase in power derived from nuclear reactors.

In the realm of foreign policy, he is intent on winding down the Iraqi involvement but is determined to carry out the mission in Afghanistan. This is witnessed by his increased use of drones, far more intensive than that of the Bush administration. President Obama is still determined to prevent the Iranians from developing nuclear weapons. How this can be accomplished is still a mystery.

The Coffee Party is set to be the next new rage in the political scene. Unlike the Tea Party, the Coffee Party is not about eliminating government, but rather, about wresting control of the government from corporations and special interest groups. They are about government following the will of the people and doing the bidding of the voters. They about finding solutions to the problems of the U.S. through discussion and decry obstructionism and political tactics.

As it gathers momentum, the Coffee Party is set to explode into a new grassroots movement that looks to impose the will of the people on government and without radical tactics. Their basic tenet is that the government is hired and paid for by the people and, therefore, should follow the will of people. They have the same concerns as the majority: the economy, affordable health care and education, and to cut government waste. They welcome diversity – ethnic, religious, and political.

Saturday, March 13th, 2010, has been established by the group as National Coffee Party Day on which they encourage small groups of members to meet at local coffee shops and discuss the issues that concern them most. A second date has been set for March 27th which they hope will draw even more people.

The Vatican has issued a statement condemning Roman high schools that will be installing condom machines in their facilities. Pope Benedict XVI has stated that this is an encouragement to young people to have premarital sex and that it takes away the sanctity of marriage and sex.

School officials disagree. The school system believes that by proving these machines they will be able to better stress the importance of unprotected sex and unwanted pregnancies. AIDS as well as other STD’s are on a rapid rise in young people. In an effort to stop this, officials believe they must educate on the use of condoms. It is very rare for any Roman agency to go against the rulings of the Vatican which has a strong influence on the community.

Pope Benedict XVI last year, in a statement regarding the rapid spread of AIDS in Africa specifically said distribution of condoms was not the answer to the epidemic. He believes that moral living is the key to stop the spread of the disease. The Catholic Church does not believe in any form of contraception and believes sex is for procreation within a marriage only. Critics believe this a very outdated concept when one looks at the world today.

Despite efforts of avid followers to get Jeb Bush to comitt to running for president in 2012, the answer right now is no. Jeb Bush, former Florida governor and brother to former president George W. Bush, stated through his son that he will not be running for president.

Jeb Bush, one of Florida’s best governors left the office in 2007 and went to work in the private sector. There he has worked for conservative causes as well as for the enhancement of education in Florida and the country.

Jeb Bush has stated that he enjoys the business community and intends to stay there. It has not been determined if he will vocally support anyone in the 2012 elections.

Floridians enjoyed a great administration under Jeb Bush. There is a large push for him to run for the white house. His son, George P. Bush, speaking at a North Carolina Republican gathering simply stated that politics is all about timing, and this election is not the time. Critics oppose a run by the former governor stating that another Bush in the White House would create a dynasty. With politics such a hot topic in America right now, no one is sure who will run on the Republican ticket.
