The exact scientific mechanism that links the early onset of baldness and the development of prostate cancer is not yet fully understood. However, the best guess of the scientific community is that male androgens, hormones like testosterone, may be responsible for playing a role in the development of both hair loss and cancer.

It is thought that these male hormones are responsible for causing hair growth, but may also be the cause of irregular and expansive growth of prostate cells. This information is important because it sheds some light on which individuals could be more likely to develop cancer, and who should take the time to be regularly screened for early cancer detection.

Study: Baldness and Prostate Cancer Linked

The findings of the study do not offer any hard evidence, but the association of androgens which cause hair loss are also present with prostate cancer.

A team of researchers has been studying a group of 388 men for a period of over two years who currently have prostate cancer and the patterns of hair loss within the group.

Diagnosis of the onset of prostate cancer in the study group ranged between 46 and 84 years of age with 281 healthy men brought in for comparison study.

The results of the group showed that men with any form of hair loss at 20 years of age had double the risk for prostate cancer.

Baldness with onset in the 30s or later does not seem to have the same indicators.

Experts agree that the study is inconclusive but does offer some interesting possibilities for early screening and detection.

Also sited is the fact that genetics plays a large role in the onset of both prostate cancer and of early balding.

Prostate Cancer And Early Hair Loss May Be Linked According To Study

According to researchers, men with a pronounced widow’s peak by 20 should take special care to be checked regularly for early signs of the disease.

The study of 669 men, 388 with a history of prostate cancer and 281 without such a history, were asked about their early hair loss.

In the cancer free group, the early hair loss was at about 5 per cent, the other group had a rate of 9.5 per cent.

Professor Phillippe Giraud, of the department of oncology and radiotherapy at the Georges Pompidou Hospital in Paris, said, “At 20 there’s a very strong correlation between baldness and the risk of prostate cancer.”

Giraud went on to say the study suggests a common genetic link for the two conditions, or raised testosterone could be a cause for both problems.

Dr. Kate Holmes, of The Prostate Cancer Charity, however, points out it’s only one possible risk factor, “We certainly don’t want men to worry about the results of this study.”

The Annals of Oncology published the research on Wednesday.

The urine test helps to detect low levels of microseminoprotein-beta protein, or MSMB, that predicts cancerous changes in the prostate.

Prostate cancer is a common malignancy of the male reproductive system and affects millions of men around the world.

Iconic American film star Dennis Hopper passed away today at age 74 from complications due to prostate cancer. Hopper fell ill with symptoms similar to the flu last September and later revealed the news of his cancer which reportedly spread to other parts of his body. Hopper was first diagnosed with prostate cancer a decade ago, but he just recently began to have severe complications last year,

The Associated Press confirms the passing of Hopper who was allegedly surrounded by family at the time of death in his Venice, CA home. Hopper was best known for his commitment to independent film with starring roles in ‘Easy Rider’ and ‘Blue Velvet’, however he later became well known in mainstream film as well with roles in a vast array of films such as ‘Speed’, ‘Super Mario Bros.’ and many more. ‘Easy Rider’ was such a success in it’s time that it inspired a surge in independent film as a whole.

Hopper spent most of 2009 and 2010 involved in a complicated divorce from his wife of 14 years Victoria Duffy. In March 2010, Hopper was honored with a star on the Hollywood walk of fame and had recently spearheaded the much applauded CineVegas film festival, which is on hiatus this year.

in January, Hopper filed for divorce from his wife Victoria Duffy, with whom he had a daughter. Hopper fought bitterly to make his divorce official, but lost his battle with advanced prostate cancer before it was final.

Mr. Hopper is said to have initiated the divorce because he believes his wife has an insatiable appetite for luxury. He believes that after all she received, she still wants more and more.

This week Dennis Hopper fell somewhere outside of his home. This gave rise to rumors that he had already died. But, soon after Dennis Hopper made an appearance at the Hollywood Walk of Fame putting this rumor to rest.

Mr. Hopper has reportedly reached the advance state of Prostate cancer and is having trouble continuing his chemotherapy treatments. He is suffering from a loss of weight and is down to 100 pounds. It is said that Mr. Hopper is trying to hold out until the divorce procedures are finalized. One of Mr. Hopper’s best known films is “Easy Rider.”

The 73 year old actor/director is said to have and advanced form of prostate cancer and is in grave condition.

All of this comes in the midst of Hopper’s divorce to 42 year old Victoria Hopper.

The couple filed for divorce in January of 2010. His doctors have said that being questioned by his wife’s attorneys could threaten his ability to survive his weakened condition. They said he is extremely weak and unable to hold long conversations.

Last month a judge ruled that Mrs. Hopper must stay at least 10 feet away from her husband after the actor said he wanted to eliminate unneeded stress.

Hopper claims that his wife has engaged in “outrageous behavior” in the past year. He says that she has given him trouble dealing with visitation rights to their 6 year old child Galen.

Mrs. Hopper says the actor threatened her and smoke marijuana around their daughter.

She claims his reason for divorce is to cut her out of his inheritance. Hopper denies all claims.

Hopper and his wife Victoria were married in 1996, but the veteran of over 50 films and television shows filed for the divorce in January of this year. Victoria Hopper claims that the actor’s ability to make sound decisions has been extremely compromised by his illness and that he has exhibited dangerous behavior around their six year old child, including smoking marijuana around her on several occasions. Victoria also claims that the only reason her husband has filed for divorce is so that he can more easily cut her out of his will.

The sordid fight that is almost entirely over money adds another sad chapter to the end of one of America’s greatest native born actors. Next to his role in ‘Easy Rider’, Hopper’s most famous role might have been as Christian Slater’s slightly racist father in ‘True Romance’. Cancer Stricken Dennis Hopper To Divorce Fifth Wife

Days after the devastating news broke about his cancer spreading, headlines were shouting he filed for divorce from his wife. Rumors began to circulate that this was the work of Hopper’s daughter who happens to be the executor of his estate. Duffy claimed Hopper did not have the mental faculties to legally file the divorce papers.

Hopper and Duffy have a six year old daughter together. Visitation between Hopper and his young daughter are often the cause of the fights between the couple. Duffy claims Hopper smokes his medicinal marijuana around the little girl. He denies the allegations. Hopper was recently granted a restraining order against his wife and was granted daily visits with his youngest child.

A prenuptial agreement has ensured Duffy will only get a portion of the actor’s estate if he dies while they are still married and living together. His children will get a larger inheritance if his divorce is granted before his imminent death.

The party has actually taken a step forward electorally in many ways with the election of Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
