An updated version of the Bible is set to be released by the Catholic Church on Ash Wednesday. This new bible has changed some of the wording of the Scripture to compensate for the evolution of language.

For example, the term “booty”, which now has an entirely different meaning, will be changed to “spoils” and the term “holocaust” will be changed to “burnt offering.” These changes represent changes to the language and the way it is used, was the explanation given by the Council of Catholic Bishops.

Other changes will be found throughout the Bible, including in Psalms, where the 23rd Psalm, perhaps the most recognized, has been reworded.

With one big bolt of lightning a six-story statue of Jesus Christ was burned to the ground Monday night.

A severe thunderstom quickly moved through Monroe, Ohio at about 11:15 pm when the lightning strikes occurred. The 40 foot wide statue showed Jesus from the torso up with his arms raised upward.

The statue was made of steel and fiberglass, that is what attracted the lightning. The statue briefly caught fire and the fire spread to an adjacent building. Firefighters contained the fire and damage estimates are expected to be released today. The statue is owned by a church founded by Lawrence Bishop and his wife. Bishop said he built the statue as a beacon of hope and salvation for people to see as they drove by. The statue cast $250,000 to build.

The Jesus statue is a landmark that many travelers are familar with along Interstate 75 in Ohio. All that remains of the statue is part of the steel frame. A video shows that when the statue was struck it appeard to explode into flames. It is not known if the statue has been struck by lightning before, or if it is going to be rebuilt in the future.

An elderly woman’s body was found in the Central United Methodist Church in Hamlin, Arkansas. Lillian Wilson was found underneath a pew around noon by Pastor Dixon Platt.

Platt was worried when Wilson did not show up for service and went to find her.

Wilson’s two sons and friends were at her house working when she was killed. Wilson was an active part of the community and an avid animal lover. She worked with veterans and was involved in the library system in town. She was also a retired registered nurse.

The community is in shock over this heinous crime.

Authorities know who they are looking for and where they are from. They denied commenting on the investigation until they find the perpetrators. They believe that they broke into the church from a side door and Wilson surprised them. Her friends said that she probably asked to help them and in turn was bludgeoned to death by a cross on a table in the church.

Authorities have not released the possible motive but Wilson’s purse and her 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis were missing and believed to be taken by the intruders.
If you see a car with the Arkansas tags of 737-NGN call the Cross County Sheriff’s Office at (870) 238-5700.

In a court in Mobile Alabama, Anthony Hopkins received a sentence of life, plus an additional 51 years. He is convicted of the murder of Arletha Hopkins, his wife.

The investigators in the case, stated that in 2004, Hopkins killed his spouse and placed her body in the family’s freezer. They stated the motive was that Arletha caught him in the act of the sexually abusing his step-daughter.

Mobile’s assistant District Attorney, Ashley Rich, said that Anthony Hopkins controlled his 8 children for years and the situation was horrible because he allowed the body to be frozen right in the home where they were living. She also said that he is the worst kind of evil. She also noted that he lied and taught his children untruths concerning the Bilble to enable him to get away with crimes. He did all of this while teaching revivals.

Hopkins told the jury where he put his wife’s body but he said he did not know what caused her death. Hopkin’s lawyer, Jeff Deen, noted the cause of death could have been natural and will take up that idea when he files an appeal.

Hopkins also received guilty verdicts on sexual abuse, sodomy, and incest.

Tuesday, Pope Benedict revealed that the greatest threat to the Roman Catholic Church is the internal sex scandals and subsequent policy of prevarication when confronted by the press. Before this, the church had been relatively reticent about the exposed scandals in the United States and more recently in Europe. The Pope acceded that forgiveness cannot override justice.

The Pontiff, for the first time, admitted that the crisis emerged from inside the church and that the church must do penitence for its sins. This was the first time the church has acknowledged that the sex scandals have been more than just a few isolated incidents.

The Pope, while being interviewed by reporters en route to Portugal, expressed his belief that the church is being punished for its sins, and surprisingly disclosed that the third mystery of Fatima predicted the scandal. The third mystery is the third of the three mysteries revealed by the Virgin Mary to a group of school children in Fatima, Portugal in 1917 that also includes the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict’s predecessor, who revealed the third Fatima mystery in 2000.

The first two predictions, revealed several decades ago, include the foreboding outcome of both world wars and the rise and fall of communism,

A Swedish cartoonist is seeing the repercussions of a cartoon that he drew in 2007 that depicted the prophet Mohammed.

Lars Vilks, the man behind the Muhammad cartoon, was attacked when he entered a classroom where he was about to deliver a lecture to around 250 students. When five people began to protest, uniformed and non-uniformed police came in to calm the protesters before the lecture began. Vilks began showing some audiovisual material when between 15 and 20 people began to get loud and eventually tried to attack the cartoonist. Police stepped in and took Vilks from the room and warded off the protestors with pepper spray. Though Vilks was not hurt, an officer was.

The cartoon in the middle of all of the madness is one that depicts the prophet Mohammed with a dog’s body. Vilks said that he concocted the cartoon in order to take a stand.

Vilks told CNN, “It should be possible to insult all religions in a democratic way. If you insult one, then you should insult the other ones.”

The cartoon is extremely insulting to Muslims because the religion considers dogs to be extremely unclean animals. Also at the center of the controversy is the fact that there are to be no depictions of the prophet.

Despite decades of military tensions between the two countries, Lebanon and Israel have put aside their differences when it comes to one topic – hummus.

The paste, made of mashed-up chickpeas, is a staple food in the region and the two countries have been in an arms race to create the world’s largest hummus dish. In its most recent attempt, Lebanon went all out. More than 300 chefs helped put together a 23,000-pound vat of hummus, and the Guinness Book of Records confirmed the feat this week.

The new record more than doubles the old record, a 9,000-pound vat completed in Israel in January. The Lebanese chefs used eight tons of boiled hummus, two tons of tahini, two tons of lemon juice and 154 pounds of olive oil to make the dish.

The “Hummus Wars” aren’t purely for fun; both countries claim to have originated the dish, which is a source of national pride. Lebanon has been lobbying the European Union to register hummus as the country’s national dish. Having that distinction would give Lebanon a greater share of the $1 billion in annual hummus sales around the globe.

Despite some public protest, the green light has been given for a mosque to be built in the area of Ground Zero. The 12 person New York City Community Board approved the plan. The project is to be in the rangle of $100 Million dollars.

The location of the mosque will be directly across the street where the Twin Towers once stood in a building that was damaged in the area on 9/11. There has been a huge outcry of the families of people who died because of the attacks and they just couldn’t believe that the Community board would approve.

The mosque is said to be a new one and is part of the Cordoba Initiative which is a pro-Muslim U.S. based group. They say that they want the mosque to be a community center and a community gathering place plus praying area for Muslims and hopefully non-Muslims. Imam Feisel Rauf said that putting the center just across the street from Ground Zero goes to show that the ‘United States is open to religious tolerance’. ‘While some people may look at it as offensive, this is a good example of the better relationships that can come from the United States and the Muslim world’, Rauf said.

A gay pastor who was the head of the biggest Lutheran church in the United States has been reinstated by the pastorate. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America had stated that they were against gays in the church and the Rev. Bradley Schmeling and his partner Rev. Darin Easler had been stripped of their duties. Now comes word that the Chicago based church group has rescinded their decision and the gay pastors have been allowed back in the pulpit. The group has also said that any record of the pair being reprimanded has been stricken from the records.

The ruling comes eight months after the ELCA made rules that forbid gays or lesbians from serving as part of the clergy. Schmeling is the leader of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Atlanta, Georgia which is recognized as the biggest Lutheran congregation in the United States. Schmeling has stated that he was happy that the church has changed its views concerning gays, lesbians, and transexuals from serving in the church. He went on to say that it was the spirit that led them to lead and serve in the church and that it had nothing to do with if they were gay or not.

It seems that, while the Lord Jesus Christ could walk on water, he cannot cross the street safely.

No need to throw your bibles, there really was a Massachusetts man whose legal name is Lord Jesus Christ. The man was run down by a motorist while he was trying to cross a street on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old man was crossing a street in Northampton, Mass. using a crosswalk when he was suddenly run over by a car. When police arrived on the scene, they checked the man’s ID and were able to confirm that the Belchertown man’s legal name is, in fact, Lord Jesus Christ. The man was taken to the hospital and treated for minor facial lacerations.

The driver of the car that struck the man was 20-year-old Brittany Cantarella. She was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The young woman has been cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. It is almost certain that Cantarella will never forget the incident. Maybe, just maybe, the Lord is trying to tell her something.

Local Catholics are claimed to be wearing wooden crosswalks around their necks until Lord Jesus Christ returns back home to Belchertown. Christ is said to be recovering.
