For anyone looking for a fun way to celebrate with their loved one this Valentine’s Day, an excellent option would be to go to the movies and see the new romantic comedy entitled “Valentine’s Day.” This movie is strongly geared toward women and features many attractive Hollywood stars including Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, Jamie Foxx, Patrick Dempsey, and Eric Dane.

The movie, which is set in Los Angeles, is based largely on the theme and importance of love. The film follows many LA based couples who are of different social and economic standings, all of whom are tied to each other in one way or another. Kutcher portrays a florist who is engaged to Jessica Alba. Jennifer Garner is married to Patrick Dempsey, who plays her unfaithful husband. Anne Hathaway plays a struggling phone sex operator who is falling in love with Topher Grace.

The movie is also geared to teenagers as teen sensations Emma Roberts, Carter Jenkins, and Tyler Lautner make appearances in the film. Music sensation Taylor Swift makes her feature film debut, when she co-stars as a lovable airhead who cannot settle on one man.

Other characters, such as Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel, Eric Dane, Katy Bates, and George Lopez make appearances in the film as single men and women struggling to deal with the love-filled holiday.

Just as in real life Hollywood relationships, many of the film’s stars play musical chairs with characters other than their in-film spouses. By the end of the movie, all the characters come to the realization of who they truly love and want to be with.

Retail: Last Minute Shopping May Counter Snow

With todaY Being the final day of shopping befo the big day; many business have lost money, but are hoping to gain back their loss due to the winter storms that snowed in shoppers

The bad snow storms that had hit over East had most people stuck at home not being able to get the last few things on their list for Christmas, this past weekend.

Record snowfall had stores shutting their doors early and shoppers stayed home, according to the National Retail Federation.

Some stores have offered to stay open later than usual for those shoppers that need those christmas lists taken care of.

Ellen Davis a spokeswoman for the National Retail Federation stated that many retailers may extend all their weekend promotions into Monday and Tuesday to give the snowed in shoppers a chance to get the deals that was advertised for the weekend. The attraction of the prolonged promotions can gain the stores the money they lost due to the weather.

Matt Rubel a chief executive officer of Collective Brands Inc, mentioned in an e-mail “There are more than enough shopping days to make up any challenges due to weather in the east.”
A co-owner of The Strand bookstore in Manhattan, Nancy Bass Wyden said in a telephone interview yesterday “ Up until 6:30 at night, we were headed to have the busiest day at the Strand, and then the weather definitely caught us. I guess people got scared away by the storm.”

Expectant retail owners are hoping for the best turnout recovery to gain their profits back before Christmas.

Most Walmart locations across US and Canada are open until 6:00pm tonight.

Every year the holidays are a time when everyone is enjoying the festivities of the season and spending time with friends as well as family. Yet another tradition also takes places about 10 days before Christmas, deadlines.

This does not mean the traditional deadline like you would think of at work, instead it is the deadline to have your holiday shopping complete for friends and family that you will be sending gifts to this year.

With December 16th being the last official day that you must have your Christmas packages at the Post Office so that any gifts will reach their destination in time for Christmas. This is not only affecting the Post Office, it also affecting the large overnight carriers. A good example of this occurred on the 14th of December with Fed Ex saying that this was their busiest day of the year.

What all of this shows is that despite the harsh economic conditions the spirit of the holidays still continues to endure. Recent evidence of this can be seen by looking at the large volume of packages that are being shipped through the Post Office and the large overnight carriers. In a world where you are hearing an endless stream of bad news, it is refreshing to see that people still continue to embrace the traditions of the holiday no matter what.

Of course if you’re not shipping off those gifts, you can shop right up to the 24th — if you can brave the crowds.

If you’re like most people, you’re always looking for a bargain these days. The best place to find those bargains is online. In 2009, over 87% of online stores offered promotions in an attempt to get consumers to shop with them.

The best time to get your shopping done and take advantage of the best deals was on Cyber Monday. This year, 96.5 million people shopped online, which was 11.5 million more people than in 2008. Online shopping only accounts for 10% of sales, but as time goes on and more people begin to realize the convenience and safety of shopping online, that number will rise.

Two of the best features of shopping online, and Cyber Monday in particular, are enormous discounts and free shipping. Amazon is one site that has become a seasoned professional at how to run an online store. Their stock price shows it as it now trades at an all time high of nearly $136. There will surely be other companies to compete with Amazon, but right now they’re the top dog in the online world, even ahead of Wal-Mart.

Traditional stores are attempting to use communication through Facebook and Twitter to let consumers know about current deals. Since peak sales are really in December, they still have a shot to hang with online behemoths like Amazon.

Get Ready for Cyber Monday Deals

The Monday after Thanksgiving has been dubbed, Cyber Monday, by online retailers. There is generally a large surge of online shoppers, and retailers are ready to give them some great deals. Several stores are offering Cyber Monday sales with some smart holiday spending ideas.

Some retailers are trying to boost their sales by running deals for the entire weekend. There are several websites that have done all the legwork for you, and have all the deals posted in one spot. Select retailers are offering free shipping as another incentive to spend your cash in their online stores.

The ability to shop online is more convenient for most people. It is still important to get started as early as possible, and take into consideration the time zones. Laptops for under $300, Wii accessories for under $10, and a 26” LCD TV for just $250.

Most sales begin at 12:01 eastern time on Sunday night. These deals are similar to the black Friday deals, and stores will only have limited quantities. A smart shopper could put the items in their virtual cart, and check out after midnight.

Cyber Monday ads 2009

Cyber Monday is just around the corner and the online stores are already rolling out their biggest deals of the year. If Black Friday is the largest shopping day of the year, Cyber monday can’t be too far off with great ads.

The question is, do these deals apply to you, as the singular consumer? The most commonly advertised item during the Cyber Monday ads 2009 season is a television, game system, or a video system to work with the television. However, these are not the only items that businesses are slashing prices on! Games of any sort: board games, puzzle games, video games; all of these have been reduced in price within a certain selection.

Businesses from smaller clothing boutiques like Forever 21 to much larger, well known outlets like Macy’s and J.C. Pennys are lowering their prices on select items for the costumer this holiday season. Looking on Amazon will provide insight into some truly great deals on anything from DVDs to magazines!

With the lowered prices, crowds can get wild but not to worry; major retailers have now placed increased security around the stores to insure that nothing inappropriate happens.

Did you do all your Christmas shopping on Black Friday? Or are you holding off maybe until Cyber Monday?

Gearing up for Black Friday

So you’ve just finished off that giant turkey, and the Black Friday ads have already got you thinking about Christmas before Thanksgiving day is over.

That’s where Black Friday comes in. Ever since Roosevelt switched the dates to the 3rd Thursday in November in the 40s (and switched back again 3 years later), Black Friday (and its ads) has been the epitome of mad-dash bargain-hunting for the savings-savvy and casual shopper alike.

This year there’s not only a plethora of bargains to be had, but also a variety of opening times. Given the unfortunate incidents at some stores last year, more department stores and big-box stores are opening up earlier this year, and with pre-doorbuster sales to spread out crowds. Of note this year is Toys R Us, with Black Friday ads advertising midnight openings, and Sears, which opens at 4am. There are still the usual deals to be had, with Best Buy offering a 15″ Gateway laptop for just $199 (most small netbooks sell for at least $300, let alone laptops).

So whatever time you do make it to the shops, maybe it’s a good thing you had that giant meal after all – good fuel for holiday shopping!

Retailers Are Offering Great Deals for Black Friday

With retailers competing in this sluggish economy, the Black Friday ads are in abundance this year. Retailers are trying hard to lure shoppers into their doors and to get consumers to leave their holiday dollars in the store. Retailers are unlocking the doors early and hoping for a positive response to their Black Friday advertisements. Retailers are anticipating that early bird specials will entice shoppers to start their shopping in the predawn hours.

Retailers are offering huge discounts on a variety of items in their Black Friday ads. Walmart has everything from $5.00 Barbie dolls to $198.00 laptops. Kmart has stick MP3 players for $9.99. Target is selling a 32” Westinghouse LCD HDTV for only $246.00. The list of deals goes on and on. It is not just electronics and toys that is being drastically reduced. A shopper can find discounts on kitchen appliances, dishes, linens, clothing, shoes, outerwear, tools, etc. No matter what is on your list this year, you are sure to find it in a Black Friday ad somewhere.

Shoppers that are hoping to take advantage of these deals will need to check the ads and be willing to start shopping early on Friday morning.

Black Friday is known as the day that kicks off the holiday season. In the past, Black Friday has been held the Friday after Thanksgiving, but this year a lot of stores, instore and online, are having their Black Friday 2009 sales earlier. They are doing this, because sales have been down and they want consumers to come to their stores to purchase items.

Electronics are going to be really big this holiday season, and stores have included this in their Black Friday sales promotions. Target has a 32 inch Westinghouse LCD television for $246; Walmart has a laptop for just $198; Best Buy has a 10 megapixel digital camera for only $49.95. A lot of the stores now have layaway plans which make it easier for you to save until you can actually purchase the item.

It is best to get to the stores early because some of the stores have a limited amount, such as 5 per store. Best Buy will open at 3AM and will have doorbuster specials and the Disney Stores will open at 12:01AM to accommodate the shoppers. A lot of the stores will be opening up between the hours of 4AM and 8AM. It is a great idea to make a list of items that you are interested in, and the prices of those items before going to the stores.

When you think of Black Friday sales, or even boxing day sales, you think of big screen TV’s, toys and clothes, now you can add cars and trucks to the list.

According to car pricing researchers Truecar.com, black Friday is the best day to buy a car in the US (no data was available for Canada).

“The discounts from dealerships, as well as manufacturers’ incentives, generate the highest discounts of the year on Black Friday,” said Jesse Toprak, an analyst for Truecar.com.

The average new car discount on Nov. 27 is estimated to be 7.5 percent. The average discount the day before and after is expected to be just over 6 percent. Normally car buyers pay 4.7 percent less than the sticker price, CNNMoney.com reports.

TrueCar says one reason for the huge discount is that it’s quiet on the lot since most people are out gift shopping, and the other is that dealers are trying to meet end-of-the-month sales quotas.

TrueCar’s monthly report on prices and deals says the “most negotiable” new cars now are the 2009 Audi Q5 and 2010 BMW 1-series.

Will you be heading out to buy a new car?
