Convicted murderer Amanda Knox may get a chance to get out of the Italian prison she has been sentenced to for 26 years. Her family based in the United States has started the appeal process through their lawyers after the judge involved in the case released his reasons for the conviction this week.

Knox who is just 22 years old was accused of murdering her roommate in a violent act of rage. Knox has repeatedly denied being at the apartment when the murder happened. The judge in the case does not believe the murder was premeditated but was the result of a violent, sexual and erotic act being played out by Knox and her boyfriend at the time, Raffaele Sollecito. Sollecito was convicted in the murder as well, and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

A third person Rudy Hermann Guede, was also convicted in the murder in a separate trial. He was originally sentenced to 30 years but after the appeal process his time was cut down to just 14 years.

Lawyers are confident the appeal will be heard after reviewing the motivating evidence for the conviction. Knox’s lawyers hope to file the appeal by the end of this month.

The story common referred to as the mysterious death of Natalee Holloway has taken a new turn as suspect Joran van der Sloot has given a taped confession where he provides a detailed account of what may have happened when he and Holloway were alone together.

According to an emotional van der Sloot, Holloway has snorted a great deal of cocaine and slipped from a balcony in an intoxicated stupor. She died from the fall and van der Sloot infers that the entire death was an accident.

The investigating authorities in Aruba, however, are not completely buying the story van der Sloot is presenting.

Authorities mention the recording interview that features the confession is over a year old and that they have long since known about. They do not consider it to be a credible statement.

The public has been enamored with this tale of a mysterious death for five years now. Holloway has disappeared while on a High School graduation trip to Aruba in 2005. Holloway is presumed dead and van der Sloot has long since been a suspect in the presumed death. Despite five years of investigations, however, van der Sloot has never been charged with any actual crime.

At Birney Elementary School in Tacoma, WA, firefighters responded to a call around 7:35 am. There in the parking lot of the school, a 30-year old woman was found dead from two gunshot wounds. The woman was a teacher at the elementary school, who had been working with local police in an anti-harassment case against her known attacker. The suspected gunman, allegedly a man she knew from college, had waited at the school for the teacher to arrive, then fled the scene after shooting.

At the time of the shooting there were no children present at the school. All buses were re-routed as word of the shooting spread.

Witnesses who heard gunshots were able to give a description of a man in a hooded sweatshirt, and his vehicle. A Pierce County Deputy later pulled over the suspect after identifying the vehicle. An altercation ensued and the deputy fatally wounded the suspect.

It has been said that the woman was a special education teacher at Birney Elementary School, although her identity is being withheld from the public until next of kin can be established and notified. The school will be closed for the rest of the day to allow time for investigation of the crime scene.

The deep chasm between President Barack Obama’s aspirations for a radically revised U.S. health-care system and opposition Republicans’ concerns about his plan’s long-term effects on the economy could not have been more stark than in a 7 1/2-hour public debate Thursday.

Sen. John McCain, the 2008 Republican nominee whom Obama defeated decisively, called attention during the ballyhooed summit to special-interest provisions of a Senate bill that Obama essentially has co-opted. Obama responded by chiding McCain that “we’re not campaigning any more. The election is over.”

McCain good-naturedly conceded that he’s “reminded of that every day.” But the exchange left open to further debate who truly is attempting to make political hay of a complicated issue on which polls suggest the Democrats are risking control of the U.S. House and Senate in November’s mid-term elections.
To Republicans, undoubtedly, the president came off as condescending and arrogant.

To Democrats, presumably, he solidified an image as the heroic advocate determined not to suffer fools gladly.

But what about independents, who have swung dramatically not just toward the middle ground and to the right of center in idealogy over the past year? Republican Scott Brown’s victory in the Massachusetts election to fill the late Sen. Edward Kennedy’s seat resulted largely from his opposition to the Democrats’ varied health-care bills. How the debate proceeds will dramatically impact the mid-term elections.

Amy Bishop made headlines a couple of weeks ago when she brazenly walked into a University of Alabama building and open fired on her co-workers. She managed to kill three and wound three others before being taken into custody.

Further investigation into Bishop has revealed a startling trail of crimes she has been linked to over the past 24 years. Now Bishop is believed to have used her educational background to create a herpes-bomb. Bishop is a neuroscientist with a doctorate in genetics from the prestigious Harvard University. The 45 year old scientist has written an unpublished book on what would happen if a massive herpes outbreak occurred.

People who worked with Bishop provided information to the police about the potential herpes bomb. The police searched the science building but have been unable to detect anything.

Students, neighbors and co-workers have expressed their concern in the past with Bishop’s behavior. She displayed numerous temper tantrums when things did not go her way. Her latest violent act was in response to her being denied academic tenure at the university.

Bishop is claiming that she does not remember shooting anybody. Her lawyer is asking for a psychiatric evaluation before she is tried on capital murder and attempted murder charges.

The United States Senate passed another bill in hopes of stimulating the economy. The jobs bill that passed the Senate contained around fifteen billion dollars in new spending and is hoping to create at least thirty thousand jobs a month by the time it is signed and implemented. The bill passed by a 70-28 vote. There was one Democrat who voted against the bill, that being Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska. Nelson reportedly was worried about the level of spending and lack of accountability within the legislation in this very rough economy. There were a number of fairly conservative legislators in the United States Senate who voted for the bill.

One of the Senators who voted for the bill was Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina. Burr bragged earlier this year that there was no one to his ideological right so there would be no way he could face a Republican primary in the future in the state of North Carolina. The fact that Burr and other rigidly conservative U.S. Senators voted for the bill was quite surprising given that the supposed tax increases that very well may be associated with the bill in order to fully implement the legislation.

A top aide to former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has resigned.

The aide partially resigned in order to seek other opportunities and partially to send a message that they were uncomfortable with the direction that the Palin camp was headed.

Some people have questioned whether Sarah Palin is just making some of her appearances on Fox News and writing books in order to get the money that comes from these agreements or whether she believes in the cause that she claims to believe in and promotes on the stump.

Some people have called into question her integrity during her time as Governor of Alaska.

They also wonder whether her husband Todd Palin was allowed to make too many decisions when it came to the financing and handling of state agencies. Meghan Stapleton is the top political aide who resigned. Stapleton claims she is resigning in order to spend more time with her friends and family.

Other people claim that she was pushed out by Sarah Palin because Palin realizes that she needs to beef up on policy matters if she does indeed run for President in 2012 as many people expect her to.

Palin may have realized that Stapleton wasn’t helping her in this regard.

BE CAREFUL, YOU NEVER KNOW WHO IS WATCHING!

A Pennsylvania school district is being sued by one of its students, Blake J.Robbins, claiming “invasion of privacy”.

All of the students at Lower Merion School District are issued computers with webcams. To keep track of these computers the school invested in a feature that will track stolen, missing and lost laptops.

The school decided to turn on this security feature without informing the parents or the students. The only way the students even knew this was happening was the fact that an assistant principal spoke to Blake about “inappropriate behavior” at home. The school saw what they thought were illegal pills being eaten by Blake which turned out to be just candy. The lawsuit claims the webcam could capture images of the students and their families in all sorts of embarrasing situations.

Students are so embarrassed and fearful of this spy feature that they have covered up their webcams with masking tape. Of course, the school district believes they have the right to track their computers and do not consider this to be spying. However, the school district does admit that they will not turn on the security feature again until students and parents have been notified. What will be next?

It what seems to be one of the strangest twists yet in the continuing saga of Alabama professor Amy Bishop, court documents reveal another murder plot in her past. In 1993, documents recently released stated, Amy Bishop and her husband were questioned in the attempted mail bombing of Dr. Paul Rosenberg.

Dr. Rosenberg apparently wrote a letter that criticized Amy Bishop. Her husband stated that he wanted revenge for the injustice done to his wife. He has been quoted as saying he wanted to kill, bomb or stab the doctor for giving her such a poor review.

While no charges were filed against the couple in 1993, they were interviewed on two occasions and were considered persons of interest. Since the shootings that occurred on campus less than two weeks ago, several disturbing items have turned up in Amy Bishop’s past. At the age of 21 she fatally killed her 18 year old brother in what was determined an accidental shooting. In 1993 she was a suspect in the mail bomb plot stated above. In 2002 she was in an altercation with a mother at a restaurant over a booster seat. And finally, she is currently sitting in jail on capital murder charges for killing 3 colleagues.
