Newly-wed Couple’s Inflatable Dinghy Stolen by a Seal

Married in August, Bee Bueche, 36 and Eddie Stebbings, 35 decided to live the first few months of their new life together on Skomer Island inhabited by a colony of about 400 adult seals. Managed by the Wildlife Trust of West and South Wales, Skomer Island is home to a wide variety of birds, gray and elephant seals, and the largest known colony of Manx shearwaters.

While it might sound like an unusual way to spend a honeymoon, the couple actually works as wildlife wardens, a profession dedicated to protecting wildlife. While on the island it was their job to monitor the seal colony without directly doing anything to interfere with their natural way of life. Therefore, when a giant bull seal decided to climb into their only mode of transportation, an inflatable dinghy, and not leave for four days, the couple had no other choice but to let the seal stay as long as he wanted leaving the couple stranded. Additionally, during their stay, after a cow seal gave birth the couple helped save 108 baby seals. Almost every day on the island, Eddie spent time climbing cliffs and venturing into caves to retrieve the pups.
