A Ugandan pastor in support of the controversial Anti-Homosexuality Bill screened gay porn in his church on Wednesday, to the disappointment of many gay rights supporters and Christians.
Martin Ssempa has used methods which attempt to persuade people that homosexuality is evil and supports the legislation.
Kelsey Hartsell, a student from Pacific Lutheran University studying in Kampala, told Dr. Warren Throckmorton, a person who started a grassroots effort to oppose the bill, that while she couldn’t speak for everyone, she knew everyone was upset for various reasons.
“Regardless of my position on homosexuality and/or the bill I can tell you what upset me was that ‘Pastor’ Ssempa was preaching against people encouraging hate and tolerance. He shamed himself as a pastor by disregarding what he thought of as a sin as an action, and turned the people doing what he calls the sin into something less than human,” quotes Kelsey.
She saw the pornographic photos of white men from the 1970s and walked out in the middle of the presentation with several other PLU students.
Throckmorton, who is an associate professor of psychology at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, says this recent event demonstrated the extremes of Reverend Ssempa in regards to demonizing homosexuals. He does not agree with homosexual behavior, but believes that Christians should practice love and forgiveness the same way Jesus did when he dealt with sin.
Gay rights groups have called the actions vulgar.
Seempa defends his actions, telling the BBC Network that what is done in the bedroom in Africa not only affects the tribe, but the entire nation.
Homosexuality is already illegal in Uganda, but the proposed Anti-Homosexuality Bill would strengthen the law. Anyone suspected of homosexuality who are HIV positive or engage in any sexual acts with people under eighteen years old could face life imprisonment or death.

This is a good law meant to lower the disease rates in a country ravaged by HIV. As a medical professional, I would have hoped that much of the world had progressed beyond the initial ignorance and fear associated with HIV and AIDS circa 1985. Likewise, notice that the proposed “pastor” opted to show porn from the 1970′s which featured WHITE PARTICIPANTS! What exactly was his motive? To push forward a hate agenda on homosexuality or to simultaneously create a deepened distrust of western culture and white persons in general? What kind of environment is he creating when western physicians attempt to extend aide to victims of HIV/AIDS in Uganda? Surely he must be aware that his actions could have long standing ramifications which could effect the quality of life for all Ugandans. Seems like the pastor is just doing his job trying to make people understand that homosexual behaviors are perverse and sinful. Showing porn in church seems rather extreme but maybe it was the only way to get the point solidly across. But even if people have no religious convictions against these behaviors, common sense should tell us that Nature did not intend for men to be with men sexually – the parts simply do not fit! Homosexuals have somehow convinced many of us that homosexual sex is normal, and further, they have begun to demand that everyone accept and acknowledge it to be so. Telling a lie a million times does not turn it into the truth. Sorry Amber. Not to sound preachy, but the bible was actually the first place the earth was mentioned to be round. In the book of Job it says that God rests his feet on the circle of the earth. There are also several other verses that show the earth is round. Don’t take others word for what the bible says, read it for your self and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand it. It really is an amazing book when read with the understanding of the spirit and heart. People can be anything they want to be, but with the help of the spirit of God we can be better than we ever could be on our own.

Aids is not a gay illness but it has spread mostly due to the liberal life styles of peoples that engage in acts of selfishness. Any person having sex outside the natural structure of Biblical principles opens themselves up to spreading a horrible illness. Gay groups have been well documented to be at high risk because of there multi partner sexual behaviors not because they have gay sex. I applaud anyone trying to counter bad behavior that contaminates society. As a Christian I am not a hater but I should be able to point to a example of bad behavior and say it’s bad and back it up with documentation.

I find it hard to believe that people just don’t get it….that the reason we are here…our purpose in life..is to bring along the next generation. And, for some of us, brining along the next generation means that we mate and produce offspring. For some engaged in the effort to bring along the next generation, there is no mating. Their part in this mission is to be there to support those who need help in bringing along their offspring. Gay, straight, choosing not to have children of your own but instead being a helpful aunt or uncle to your siblings who do decide to have chidren of their own…whatever. We’re all here to accompish the stated objective of making sure that procreation continues.

What if the reason for homosexuality is the same kind of thing that happens when a child is born with down syndrome or any kind of genetic disease. It is a fluke of nature, yes they may be born that way, but it is not “normal.” So in the sense that they are born that way, like being a woman in a man’s body, I can see that and understand that. There are many things that happen when a child is conceived I don’t think it’s inconceivable that something goes wrong and the child is born with same sex orientation. Or if you believe in reincarnation, could it be that the person didn’t transistion from a past life gender…I can think of many reasons it could happen, but the one reason I don’t accept is that God ordained it. God puts life in motion, He doesn’t sit there and say this one’s straight..this one’s gay…just my two cents.

John, I am sorry if you mistakened my reply as being hateful. I was simply quoting some scripture from the Bible. I never stated anything about hatred toward sinners. I believe quite the opposite that “whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” Christians love the sinners by speaking the truth in love. We hate the sin by refusing to condone, ignore, or excuse it. The Bible is clear that no Christian is without sin. Each Christian has their own sin/temptation to struggle with. What differentiates a Christian from a non-Christian is how they deal with their struggle against their sin. A true Christian will always repent, will always return to God, and will always resume their struggle against sin. The Bible gives no support for the idea that a person who perpetually and unrepentantly engages in sin can indeed be a true Christian. All sin is forgivable yes, but if you truly repent you pray for the strength to stay away from your sin, not continue to live in a sinful lifestyle.
Another reasons Some Gay tried to kill himself is due to harassment (Verbal and Physicals) and hate from the public due to his choice and trying to tell him what he does in privacy with his partner in the privacy of their house is wrong and we should change. It is the preaching the view you’re nothing and vile and disgusting to gay people and makes you afraid that you left your friends and family down.

Yes, another thing to procreate and having new generations and/or having kids so they can carry your name after you die. Some people don’t want kids due for any number of reasons. It’s not an obligation that once you’re born you owe me grandkids. My brother(he is str8 but no job but has 1 and 1 on way) and sisters (2 kids each) are having kids but I choose not to.

after putting my post on here yesterday i have to laugh at everyone else. if you read all the posts with scripture its quite comical because it appears that your christian bible contradicts itself. i grew up christian and became a pagan because every one could not agree on the same interpitation of the same bible. in the case for the pastor he is in the wrong for promoting hate. times have changed and there are many ways of contracting aids. everyone just needs to grow up and accept that people are different and there are diseases that can kill you no matter what.

Sometimes there is no soft way to say certain things. I boldly applaud the bold move of Dr. martin Ssempa. That act was very daring and it ashamed the people who do it. Well done Dr. Ssempa. Let’s get this valuable and visible truth; homosexuality is a no welcome practice to the human race. Those who have always tried it if humility was to cover them would actually tell us that the act is never cool. I will forever support Rev Dr. Ssempa. His move to show what happens in the privacy of homos incenced many homos but was a huge relieve to a parent in America, Asia, Europe, Australia and Africa. I was able to know what this guys actually do. How can I be of support to such practises?????? It was no disappointment to me seeing those pictures screened. I also want to strongly deny that Ssempa must have been looking for sympathy. No. Homosexuality is no beautiful act. In Africa, a springboard for the development of many nations homosexuality was unheard of. It is not until the Arabs who had soiled themselves with some Europeans that this vice entered Africa. Nevertheless, no one accepted it. Please let Uganda do her own things. Let her govern her people in the moral way they have appreciated. This bill is going to be passed by all means. The problem isn’t with the bible, it’s with the people reading it. Those that ‘interpret’ it a certain way in order to support and justify their sinful way of life, instead of changing their lives in support of what the bible clearly teaches. What God teaches, but of course if you don’t believe the bible is real then it doesn’t really matter. However, the bible does clearly state in 2 Peter 1:19-21,”no scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, “. God communicated things in a specific way with specific words. If someone has to add to it or ignore parts of it’s not from God (truth), it’s an interpretation. As for 1 Corinthians 13, Love is the greatest commandment but only when it, ” does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with truth”(vs. 6). If you’re not in truth, love becomes a ‘noisy gong’ and self serving. Here is the problem again, it’s people trying to bend scripture to support their way of life instead of changing themselves in support of scripture. BTW, you spelled Corinthians wrong and as for the ‘love’ that you speak of in this chapter, it’s referring to the Greek word “agape”, love which is a sacrificial love, not the love that most people use these scriptures to support, which is “eros”, a passionate love, with sensual desire or longing. Still the Christian message is Loving and honoring one another but this is widely miss used and used out of context, much as you did in your earlier post. If you’re not willing to sacrifice self for others or put the needs of others before your own then you’re not talking about the “love” that 1 Corinthians is talking about!! “The greatest of these is ‘love’..” means it’s not about ‘me’, it’s about others(another problem is a “me, me, me” mentality. However, if all we stand for is ‘love’ and not ‘truth’ we’ll have an apathetic people with no order or absolutes. “You’re OK, I’m OK! If you were really raised in a Christian environment, I’d encourage you to go back to that but take your own advise and do your homework. There has to be a final authority and it can’t come from man, as man(without God) is corrupt and deceitful!
PS. Being accepting of others doesn’t mean you ‘love’ them. TRULY caring people love others by putting others before themselvs, as I’ve stated. You can do this and not go to hell. It really comes down to a choice!!
