11-Year-Old Bahrain Boy Freed After 1 Month Prison Sentence

After spending a month behind bars, an 11 year old was allowed to go home, pending his next trial date on June 20. Ali Hasan, was arrested in Bahrain during a protest. Prosecutor, Al-Khalifa, stated the boy was arrested after him and his friends were witnessed blocking a street with trash cans and wooden planks. Hasan told the police that he and his friends were paid to do it.

Bahrain has had many anti-government riots during the last year as the Shia majority has been trying to gain more political power from the Sunni Dynasty. More than 50 people have been reported to have died during these riots and Hasan is one of the youngest suspects to have been detained.

Hasan was allowed to go home while prosecutors reviewed a file put together Hasan’s social worker. During his stay in prison Hason was able to take his final school exams.
