The Chelsea King Case Prompts Renewed Interest in Amber Dubois Case
Three girls lead police to a pond which held the remains of a missing girl after reading about the Chelsea King case.
Work crews drained a pond located at Kit Carson Park in hopes of finding 14-year-old Amber Dubois. Dubois went missing a year ago; she was last seen walking to Escondido High School. Law enforcement was alerted to the pond by three girls, a 9-year-old and two 11-year-olds, who reported finding a plastic bag with black hairs in it nine months ago. Police found the bag the girls described, but to no avail; there was nothing left in the bag but mud.
“There is no reason to believe (the bag found) is related to the Amber Dubois case,” Carter said, “but we are looking into it with the thought that it could be.”
Divers from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the Escondido police and the FBI spent Friday searching the pond; they searched through trees in the park as well. Over 72 volunteers came out to search clues in the case; the search will continue today.
The pond being searched located near Lake Hodges, the place where police found the body of 17-year-old Chelsea King in a shallow grave on Tuesday
