Alanis Morisette’s Husband Sues to Get Couples Pooch Back

Mario Treadway, the husband of the stunningly beautiful Canadian alt-rock singer Alanis Morisette, has filed a lawsuit to attempt to regain custody of their pet pooch Circus, a cross breed of a Chihuahua and Pug. The couple found the animal as a stray back in May of 2011. After no one claimed the animal at the local dog shelter, they adopted the animal and it became the family pet.

Their house manager Maria Garcia would tend the animal while the couple were away on music tours and during that time became quite fond of the dog herself. For reasons unclear, Garcia was terminated this past January and took Circus with her. Whether she was trying to rankle her former employers, or pad her severance package by keeping the dog, both Treadway and Morisette want the dog returned. They admit that Garcia’s theft of the dog has both hurt and angered them. The lawsuit is asking for $25,000 and the return of the dog.

It should be noted that in California, dogs are considered property which makes it likely that all they will receive is compensation for the fair value of the dog which is not likely to be valued anywhere near $25,000.
