Andy Kaufman’s Brother Says Alive Claim Misquoted
Andy Kaufman, the “Taxi” actor and comedian who died from cancer in 1984 at the height of his fame, is still dead.
His brother Michael, claims he was misquoted when news sources contended he read a letter from Andy proving that he is alive, well and having succeeded in pulling off the ultimate practical joke on his fans.
Michael Kaufman claims he was misquoted regarding comments attributed to him during the annual Andy Kaufman Awards held in New York City that stated his brother was “alive”. Michael went so far during the awards ceremony as to invite his brother’s daughter on stage to answer some questions.
“This is so, like, out of my league what’s going on here,” he said. Michael told the news outlet, “I think I’ve been misquoted, OK? I never came out with, ‘He’s alive.’ I’m as skeptical as anybody else.”
The young woman claiming to be Andy Kaufman’s offspring was nervous as she explained that Kaufman dropped out because he wanted to be a stay at home dad and leave show business. But when reports surfaced that the alleged daughter who appeared with Michael Kaufman was in fact an actress named Alexandra Tatarsky, Michael Kaufman cancelled scheduled interviews with the Hollywood Reporter Magazine. He said he was inundated with publicity that resulted from his comments and insisted he was misquoted. Anonymous sources say it is Michael Kaufman himself who is continuing to fuel the hoax that brother Andy is still alive.
