Angelina Jolie To Portray Breast Cancer Victim Mother

Following quickly on the recent announcement that actress Angelina Jolie recently underwent a double mastectomy to prevent her from suffering the same fate as her cancer-stricken mother comes word that Jolie will portray her mom in an upcoming film. Marcheline Bertrand, who was married to actor Jon Voight at the time of Jolie’s conception, battled breast cancer for 10 years prior to succumbing to the disease at the age of 56. Jolie, who recently discovered through medical testing that she carried the same gene which makes her more vulnerable to breast cancer herself, made the heroic decision to remove both breasts and is now awaiting surgery to remove her ovaries as well.

The biopic about Bertrand is set to be produced by Jolie’s significant other and fiancé Brad Pitt through his Plan B production company. Filming is set to begin on the picture sometime in 2014, although neither Jolie nor Pitt has released any exact production dates. Jolie was inspired by her mother’s philanthropic nature to get involved in a number of charitable causes. Bertrand was active throughout her life in several humanitarian causes, including providing aid to female refugees from Afghanistan, in addition to founding an organization to fight gynecological cancer.
