It’s no fun being homeless, but for Calgary, Alberta homeless people it’s even less fun thanks to being humiliated on Facebook. Talk about kicking people when they are down. “Creature Sightings,” the anti-homeless Facebook page, features shocking photos of young men posing pictures of themselves with homeless people who are passed out in public places or sleeping in the open.

Police are investigating the Facebook page and its postings to determine if charges should be brought. They’ve interviewed people who were threatened and were asking others who were harassed to contact them as they build cases against the alleged bullies.

Tom Richter, president of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness, said the Facebook page was simply disgusting. He said it took bullying to a new level. It was another example of how social media is used to bully people, he added.

One video post on “Creature Hunting” showed two young men harassing an unfortunate homeless person. The bullies follow the homeless person around downtown while screaming curses at him and delivering non-stop jibes in a process they called creature hunting.

Even if charges aren’t brought against perpetrators of this harassment, Richter said perps should be humiliated themselves and then ignored.
