A 30-year old woman driving a silver BMW crashed into a FatBurger Sunday night where four uniformed Vancouver officers were taking their break at the time of the incident.

“It’s something you don’t expect,” said Vancouver Police Constable Brian Montague who described the event that unfolded around 8 p.m. at the popular eatery. The four patrol cops, whose beat included the diner located in the West End burger joint on Denman Street were taken to the hospital for injuries that included broken bones, chest pains and breathing issues. By Monday morning all four officers had returned home to recover.

Witnesses stated that the vehicle veered head-long into the restaurant’s storefront and shook the building upon impact. Aside from the injured police, broken glass and the wall were the only damages sustained in the accident, and the driver, though apparently unharmed was taken to the hospital as a precaution. No other injuries among staff or customers were reported.

As of Monday morning, police were discounting both speed and alcohol as a cause of the accident and the incident appears so far inexplicable. Constable Brian Montague stated the incident was being investigated, and that currently-- “We have a lot of unanswered questions.”
