Police had already been alerted that someone in the vicinity of Hornsby and Dunsmuir Street was weaving in and out of traffic when the driver suddenly swerved onto the sidewalk, causing pedestrians to run for their lives.

Police report that only one individual seems to have gotten a close look at the wrong-way driver, a brave pedestrian who approached the car and attempted to open the vehicle's door in an effort to make the driver stop. Although that individual failed to gain entry into the car, shortly after his confrontation with the driver, he moved his vehicle off of the sidewalk and continued to drive west along Dunsmuir Street. Police are asking that this witness or any others who were in the area on February 6 come forward with any information that would lead to the driver's arrest. Police officials refused to speculate what caused the driver to endanger pedestrian safety by mounting the sidewalk and no word if the driver had been drinking.
