British Columbia Man Shoots Relative with Cross-bow than Turns Weapon on Himself

Mission, British Columbia - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received what they acknowledged was a peculiar distress call when witnesses dialed 911 informing authorities that a young adult male had been shot in the chest by a crossbow as he left the Mission Station Grill, his employer. The incident took place at around 11:30PM PST just after the young man had performed his clean up routine at the restaurant and made his way to the parking lot.

The perp who shot him was his own relative from the town of Nanaimo in nearby Vancouver Island. When RCMP authorities arrived on the scene, they found the 59-year-old perp barely alive following a self-inflicted crossbow shot. The man was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

At this time, the RCMP does not believe there was anyone else involved in the attack. While they believe that the shooter's objective was to commit a murder-suicide, the man's motive for doing it is unclear.

RCMP Const. Amanda Harnett says it was an unusual call for them.

"Mission RCMP received a 911 call from an individual stating that a young man had been struck in the torso with an arrow and they were taking him to hospital. Our members arrived and immediately found another male lying down and it appears he had a self inflicted wound," she said.

As for the victim, he required emergency surgery, but it expected to survive. For now, the RCMP admits that they have many unanswered questions about the entire episode. Crossbow-related violence is very rare, but that does not take away from the lethal nature of the popular hunting weapon.

Police say they would like to speak any one who might have information about the incident.
