People from around the Maritime were calling to report a bright fireball that they saw in the sky.

Nova Scotia RCMP say they received a couple calls from people in Chester area just after 5 o’clock.

“They described it as a yellow flare in the sky,” explains Sergeant Alain Leblanc. “But that’s all we know.”

One man said that it lit up the entire sky and he believes he caught the very end of it when he looked out the window. The man reported that it was almost like a meteor, but, not quite the same. It was in the northern part of the sky.

Rick Parker, who lives on Mattatall Lake near Wentworth, N.S., told the CBC, the light was so bright it got him out of bed.

“It was a bright light and it lit up the whole sky, and when I looked out the window, I just saw what appeared to be maybe the tail end of it, if you like, and it was almost like a meteor but not the same," he said. "It was falling in the northern horizon.”

The International Space Station reports that it was passing over the area at the time of the sightings. The man who saw the lights said that he has seen them passing over before and this was not the same. He claims it was much brighter than that. NASA reported that there was a piece of space debris that was also in the sky at the time.

A firefighter from Fredericton said that he was on his way home from a fire call when he saw the light. He thought it was a plane that was crashing because whatever it was appeared to be on fire. He saw flames and sparks; and it went down below the tree-line. Other witnesses said that it made a sound like thunder when they saw it. No one is quite sure what they saw; however, it was enough to cause a great deal of ruckus across a huge span of Canada that night.
