89-year-old Drug Mule Pleads Guilty

Michigan City, IN – As the 1985 hit song by Glen Fry aptly described “It’s the lure of easy money, it’s got a very strong appeal.” Mr. Leo Sharp admitted his guilt before a judge in his drug smuggling case. Sharp was pulled over by a highway patrol officer back in 2011 and found in possession of 200 lbs of cocaine.

It turns out that Sharp had been in the drug business for roughly a decade and admitted to transporting 1,400 lbs of cocaine over the years. In his long life, Sharp has only once had trouble with the law and it involved a sordid issue of filming a prostitute. He spoke candidly with the judge and offered direct honest responses to the questions posed to him.

The prosecutors are said to be showing him mercy by recommending a five year prison sentence. Really? At age 89, that’s likely to be a life sentence. Sharp has paid a fine of $500,000 from his ill-gotten gains and forfeited his beloved lily nursery which he operates in Apopka, FL. Authorities will let him keep his residence in Indiana, but given his age and looming prison sentence, he will likely not be needing it.
