Perhaps those friendly skies really are not so "friendly" after all. On February 8 it seems that Delta passenger Joe Rickey Hundley decided to lash out at a 2 year old child.

According to mom, Jessica Bennett, her child began to cry as the plane prepared to land on a Hartsfield/Jackson International runway. Bennett says that she was trying to calm her toddler when the assault took place.

Hundley was seated beside them and uttered a racial slur before striking the child across the face.

The little boy sustained a cut underneath one eye and was undoubtedly terrorized by the incident.

This unbelievable scenario played out in full view of other passengers on Delta Flight 721.

The blatant abuse brought other individuals into the fracas as they rushed to assist the mother and child. Joe R. Hundley is vigorously denying all accusations, but he was still arrested for assault.

Alcohol may have also been a factor although drinking can not be used as an excuse such deplorable behavior.

According to CNN, the charge of simple assault on someone under age 16 carries a prison sentence of one year, court papers said.

In 2007, Hundley pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge filed in Virginia, according to court records.

Hundley has since been suspended from his job pending the investigation.
“We understand that authorities are investigating the recent behavior of one of our business unit executives while on personal travel.

The allegations are disturbing and are contradictory to our values,” said Al Haase, president and CEO of AGC Aerospace & Defense, Composites Group.
