12-year-old Boy Arrested in Stabbing Death of His 8-year-old Sister
Valley Springs, CA - Police have arrested the assailant responsible for the stabbing death of bubbly little eight year old Leila Fowler.
The investigation was the culmination of 2,000 hours of police work to comb through the Fowler residence for fingerprints and other clues. However, the assailant wasn't the 6-ft heavy set Hispanic male that Leila's 12-year-old brother described to a police sketch artist.
Nor was it any of the registered sex offenders making a living in the area. According to CNN, it was the twelve-year-old boy himself. The motive for the killing is unknown, and for now the police are not disclosing the name of the boy due to his age. Police were called to the Fowler residence on Saturday, April 27, to respond to a home invasion, and stabbing incident.
The two Fowler children were home alone when the boy claimed an unknown Hispanic male entered the home and stabbed his sister. Leila was still alive when an ambulance arrived but succumbed to her injuries minutes after arriving at the hospital.
The local police department put enormous amounts of man-hours into the investigation both to find the perpetrator and to assuage public fears of a child-killer at large. The community has been shocked over the incident.

According to reports, police are looking for the assailant.
Calaveras County sheriff’s official say the girl was killed at a house on Rippon Road in Valley Springs, a small twon of 2,500 people in an unincorporated area of Calaveras County, known as “Gold Country."
The girl’s 12-year-old brother was also in the home at the time. He called his parents to say that there was an intruder in the house. They then called 911, according to Fox 40.
According to KTVU, the girl was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. KCRA-TV in Sacramento reported that the girl had been stabbed.
"That's just terrible, what can I say about it it's a tragedy,” said neighbor Paul Gschweng.
“This is way too close to home,” Julia Poland, who took her 13-year-old daughter to an afternoon news conference on the search, told the Modesto Bee. “This kind of thing does not happen here.”
The victim’s brother described the intruder as roughly 6 feet tall with a muscular build, and last seen wearing a black long-sleeved shirt with blue pants.
Authorities said the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
“We’re doing a house to house search and in some cases we’re searching extensively into attics and storage sheds. It’s a difficult area to search. It’s rural, it’s remote,” a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s office explained.
Grief counselors were also expected to be available at the school. A class of sixth-graders placed ribbons outside to remember Fowler, a third-grader.
Valley Springs is a town of about 3,500 some 60 miles southeast of Sacramento.
