Mom suspected in kid's death

On Saturday, September 14th,  42-year-old Marilyn Edge was pulled from her vehicle as she was apparently attempting suicide in Costa Mesa, CA, after killing her two young children. The two children were found in the Hampton Inn and Suites located in the 2700 block of Hotel Terrace already dead.

According to police remains of a 13-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl in the hotel room.

Further information, including the names of the children, the motive and the cause of death, was not being released,

Law enforcement reported this to be a suicide attempt because the woman had a large propane gas tank inside the car, and she was attempting to crash into an electrical box. Edge refused to exit from the car, so officers broke the window to pull her out. She was found with a device around her neck, and as she was being pulled out, she was trying to choke herself.

“Last night, it was mainly trying to figure out who these people were and dealing with the scene itself,” Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

Edge was reportedly from Arizona, but the car she was driving had George license plates and a decal from a Georgia auto dealership. Law enforcement is not sure why she was in southern California with her children, but more will be disclosed.

According to WSB-TV in Atlanta, Marian Weeks, an attorney for the children's father, said Edge was supposed to turn the kids over to their father in Marietta, Georgia late last week but went to California instead.

The double homicide left locals and hotel guests in shock.

"My goodness if there's two children involved that's just horrendous to say the least," Mike Ramey told KABC "As a parent, it's just a heartbreaker."

Edge was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released before being booked on charges.
