Euclides Monteiro, a man who died in 2009, is thought to be the key suspect in the disappearance ofMadeleine McCann. Monteiro was fired from the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz in 2006 for stealing and is believed to have kidnapped the British girl as a form of revenge.

The McCann family along with some family friends had been staying near the Ocean Club resort where Monteiro was formerly employed. Madeleine vanished mysteriously on May 3, 2007. She was three years old at the time and the Portuguese government has resumed the investigation after a five year hiatus.

The McCann family has stated that the new reports are merely speculation. Monteiro's widow has also been questioned and expressed that it is "very easy to blame someone who can’t defend themselves anymore." She also went on to say, ?My husband would never be capable of committing such a crime."

Monteiro died at the age of forty in a tractor accident in 2009 and had battled for a long time with drug use and addiction, mainly heroin. He was from Cape Verde Africa and it is also claimed that he robbed a number of apartments in the past to support his habit.
