Abby, Brin, and Laurel Hepner were born on November 22 at Sutter Memorial Hospital, and are doing well according to doctors. The parents, Tom and Hannah Hepner of Quincy, California could not be more proud.
The odds of conceiving identical triplets is believed to be between 1-in-1-Million and 1-in-100-Million. The exact probability is difficult to estimate due to the rarity of such births. Tom Hepner said that his wife is "quite a remarkable women. She cruised through the experience. Hats off to her."
Since the family knew that they were carrying triples, Hannah Hepner was airlifted to Sutter Memorial Hospital so she could get treatment from a specialized team. At birth each baby was quite small. Abby weighed in at 3 pounds, 2 ounces; Brin was 3 pounds, 11 ounces; and Laurel was a solid 4 pounds. The girls have been in the hospital since birth because they want to be sure that all of them can gain weight, and maintain their body temperature. Doctors also want to be sure they are eating the right amount of food as well. You can never take enough precautions when you're dealing with babies of this size.
Once the triplets are cleared by doctors to go home, the Hepner's will travel back to their hometown of Quincy which is 100 miles North of Sacramento. We wish the best of luck to the continued health of the Hepner family.
