Zhejiang, China - Somewhere in the world's most populous nation is a person who had an awful lot of disposable money. This is because someone paid 12 million Yuan (~$1.95 million) for a single Tibetan mastiff puppy. Put another way, this person paid for a dog what the average American college graduate earns during their working lifetime. At that price, it must surely be a special dog indeed.

According to the breeder, Mr. Zhang Gengyun, the Tibetan mastiff puppy replete with fluffy golden hair is special. It contains the blood of a lion coursing through its veins. The owner, who is not actor Charlie Sheen famous for his tiger blood, but a wealthy Chinese person interested in "showboating". This is because in China, Tibetan mastiff dogs are a symbol of opulence and status.

Without question, this particular breed of dog is large. The pup measured at 80 a length of 80 centimeters (~31 inches) and weighed 90 kg (~200 lbs). This latest auction smashes the prior record for the most expensive dog in history which was set in 2011 in China, of course. That Tibetan mastiff, called "Big Splash", fetched the price of $1.5 million USD. The pup was 11 months old at the time.

An industry insider surnamed Xu told the China Daily, that the high prices may be the result of insider agreements among breeders to boost their dogs’ worth.

'A lot of the sky-high priced deals are just breeders hyping each other up, and no money actually changes hands,' Mr Xu said
